Fuerteventura Windsurf & Wingfoil World Cup René Egli acted as the local organizer. The slalom event was also held at the time in addition to the speed event.
In 1985, the Swiss surfing school owner René Egli brought the excellent windsurfing conditions at Sotavento to the attention of the PBA (Professional Board sailors Association). We've got new World Champions! And what a tight race it was. Going into the grand final to decide the event winner and this year’s world champion, Nia Suardiaz of Spain and Bastien Escofet of France held the lead. But it was France’s Kylie Belloeuvre and Italy’s Francesco Cappuzzo who ultimately sn**ched the titles in two thrilling final runs. Escofet and Suardiaz finished second, and in the women’s division, Spain’s Mar de Arce took third place, while Italy’s Sebastiano Zorzi rounded out the podium in the men’s division.

The GWA Wingfoil FreeFly-Slalom World Cup is about to decide its world champions. Currently, the front-runners—Bastien Escofet from France and Nia Suardiaz from Spain—have the best chances of advancing to the grand final. The wind is already blowing strongly, and the course is being set. Everything is set for an exciting day of competition off the coast of Sotavento.

Immediately following the GWA Wingfoil Surf-Freestyle World Cup finals, the first races in FreeFly-Slalom got underway. After two races, Nia Suardiaz of Spain leads the women’s division. In the men’s division, France’s Bastien Escofet is in the lead.

Final day of the Wingfoil Surf-Freestyle competition. With perfect conditions once again, American Zoe Trudeau secured the victory in the women’s division, followed by Viola Lippitsch from Austria and Nia Suardiaz from Spain. Suardiaz clinched the 2026 world championship title ahead of Lippitsch and Spain’s Sofia Ginzinger. In the men’s division, reigning world champion Benjamin Castenskiold of Denmark claimed both the event victory and the world championship title once again. He was joined on the event podium by US rider Luca Vuillermet and Axel Gerard of France. In the world ranking, Tomas Acherer of Austria took second place, followed by Christopher Macdonald (USA).

Title contenders Tomas Acherer of Austria and Christopher Macdonald of the United States were eliminated in the semifinals. Italy’s Rocco Makana still has a chance in tomorrow’s final to sn**ch victory in this event—and the world championship title—from Denmark’s Benjamin Castenskiold. In the women’s division, the battle for the top spots behind Spain’s Nia Suardiaz promises to be exciting.
