So, what could we see on our Maldives trips? 👀
Rasdhoo + Fuvahmulah is a pretty good combo if marine life is high on your list.
Some animals are around a lot. Others depend more on the season. And then there are the ones that make you stare into the blue a little longer.
🦈 Tiger sharks · Fuvahmulah
They’re around all year, so this is one of the shark encounters we feel most confident about there.
🐢 Hawksbill & green turtles · Rasdhoo + Fuvahmulah
Turtles are seen often around Rasdhoo, and we can find them around Fuvahmulah too. Basically, we’ll be keeping an eye out on both islands.
🦈 Grey reef sharks · Rasdhoo + Fuvahmulah
A very common sight around Rasdhoo’s channels and reef edges, and also seen around Fuvahmulah throughout the year.
🌊 Manta rays · Rasdhoo + Fuvahmulah
Rasdhoo’s manta season runs roughly from November to April. In Fuvahmulah, oceanic mantas are especially interesting around March to May. So our January–April trips fall into a very good window.
🦈 Thresher sharks · Fuvahmulah
They can show up throughout the year, but they’re not as predictable as the tigers. April is also part of a good period for seeing them.
🦈 Hammerheads · Rasdhoo + Fuvahmulah
Possible in both places, but this is one of those sightings where a bit of luck definitely helps. In Fuvahmulah, April–May and October–December are often better for schools. Rasdhoo can surprise us too.
🐋 Whale sharks · Fuvahmulah
They can appear throughout the year, but January to May is one of the better windows. Which means yes, we’ll definitely be looking out for them.
That’s diving. You can pick the right place, go at the right time… and still have no idea what’s going to swim past you.
