Here we go with Part 3 of the lineup reveals with the updated format. (Update)

Our All-Time Lehigh Valley Wrestling League continues with three more programs:

🔴 DIERUFF
🔵 LIBERTY
🔴 STROUDSBURG

These are not simply the 13 greatest wrestlers in each school’s history. We’re building the strongest possible 13-man dual-meet lineup using today’s high-school weight classes.

Our evaluation:

• 90 points — High-school career
• 8 points — College career
• 2 points — Freestyle / international achievement

Actual high-school weights and career progression matter, which means even accomplished state champions may be edged out of the starting lineup.

🔴 DIERUFF HUSKIES

⭐ ALL-TIME TEAM MEMBERS (Because Liberty’s history is so deep, we used a much higher threshold here: **only omitted PIAA state champions and state runners-up are included.**)

William Unangst 🏆
PIAA runner-up at 135 in 1938 and State Champion at 155 in 1940. Blocked by Liberty’s exceptional depth in the 152–160 range.

Pete Cicchine 🏆
1940 PIAA State Champion at 135. Caught behind Doug Koch and Gino Capuano in one of Liberty’s strongest historical weight bands.

Charles Cope 🏆
1947 PIAA State Champion at 155.

Bart Mosser 🏆
1958 PIAA State Champion at 127. John Fritz’s two state finals and NCAA championship keep the starting 126 position.

John Eckenrode 🏆
1961 PIAA State Champion at 138.

Randy Biggs 🏆
1967 PIAA State Champion at 95. See Freedom team.

Jim Bresnak 🏆
1980 PIAA AAA State Champion at 105. McIntyre’s back-to-back state runner-up finishes give him the edge in the optimized lineup.

Bernie Hart
1961 PIAA runner-up at 95.

Dave Clery
1962 PIAA runner-up at 138.

Dave Hammer
1971 PIAA runner-up at 112.

Greg Filipos
1972 PIAA runner-up at 103.

Greg Sweigard
1976 PIAA AAA runner-up at 126.

Mario Stuart
PIAA third at 103 in 1998 and runner-up at 112 in 1999; later a two-time NCAA Division I All-American for Lehigh. Torres gets the starting nod because this project is high-school first and Torres owns the PIAA title.

Brandon Mihalko
2000 PIAA AAA runner-up at 171 after placing seventh at 160 the previous year. Matt Reiss retains 170 with a PIAA bronze plus an NCAA Division I championship.

Anthony Marino
2010 PIAA AAA runner-up at 119 after placing fifth at 112 in 2009. A strong two-medal résumé, but Santoro’s total career and lineup fit keep him outside the starting 13.

Luke Werner
Three-time PIAA medalist — 8th at 106, 5th at 113 and runner-up at 120 in 2017. This was one of the closest decisions:

K.J. Fenstermacher
Three-time PIAA state placewinner: 2015 7th (113), 2016 3rd (120) and 2017 3rd (132 / w/ Northampton). Assigned to Liberty under our majority-years rule.

1938 PIAA runner-up at 185.

Jim Placatoris
1952 PIAA State Runner-up at 185.

1988 — Lance Morabito — 5th at 185

2003 — Mike Pena — 7th at 112
2004 — Ricci Bass — 3rd at 125
2006 — W***y Horwath — 7th at 130
2010–2011 — Anthony Cabrera — 5th at 103 in 2010; 4th at 112 in 2011
2011 — Brett Marino — 7th at 103
2012 — Grimaldi Gonzalez — 3rd at 120
2014 — Jake Gunning — 3rd at 220
2018 — Tal-Reese Flemming — 3rd at 106
2018 — Matthew Maloney — 5th at 113
2019 — Damen Moyer — 6th at 195
2019 — Michael Torres — 8th at 126
2024 — Kam Abboud — 8th at 139

Liberty’s depth may be the most striking part of the lineup: there are six additional PIAA champions who we could not fit in the starting 13!

🔴 STROUDSBURG MOUNTAINEERS

District XI and Northeast Regional champion and PIAA fourth-place finisher.

170 — Dave Zettlemoyer
1987 District XI and Northeast Regional champion and PIAA state runner-up; later won a PSAC championship at East Stroudsburg..

182 — Lenny Pinto 🏆

195 — Jake Jakobsen 🏆
2015 PIAA runner-up followed by the 2016 PIAA State Championship, later an EIWA champion for Lehigh.

285 — Cody Cooper
Two-time District XI heavyweight runner-up with more than 100 career victories.

⭐ EXTENDED ALL-TIME TEAM

Scott DeLong — Regional champion and PIAA qualifier; squeezed by Stroudsburg’s lightweight depth.

John Fisher — 167 PIAA runner-up and regional champion; his natural weight overlaps directly with Zettlemoyer.

Bob Hemhauser — 126 District XI and regional champion; Rivera’s four state medals win the position.

Al Lewis — Heavyweight Regional champion and PIAA qualifier; Cooper gets the starting heavyweight spot.

Mike Muth — 155 District XI champion caught in Stroudsburg’s very deep middleweight group.

Matt Transue - 2x District Champ, Regioncal Champ and state 8th place.

Mike Yetter - PIAA 8th in both 2000 & 2001

State Placers not already listed above:
993 — Craig Loebsack — PIAA 5th at 152
2000–2001 — Mike Yetter — PIAA 8th at heavyweight in both 2000 and 2001
2001 — Andy Ludlow — PIAA 6th at 189
2011 — Eric Howey — PIAA 8th at 135
2021 — Josh Jasionowicz — PIAA 8th at 106

That’s the challenge with this project — some wrestlers are absolutely good enough to start, but only one wrestler can occupy each weight.
Stroudsburg’s strength is its sustained state-level depth.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Three programs. Three very different historical profiles.

🔴 DIERUFF — championship strength throughout the lineup.

🔵 LIBERTY — extraordinary depth, including six additional state champions outside the starting 13.

🔴 STROUDSBURG — tremendous state-medal depth anchored by Pinto and Jakobsen.

Remember, the question isn’t: “Who are the 13 greatest wrestlers in school history?”

It’s: “What is the strongest historical dual-meet lineup you can put on the mat?”

Who did we get right? Who would you move into the starting lineup?

More teams coming in Part 4.
