As part of the collective dream and responsibility of the people of Sidama and the residents of Hawassa City, large public contributions were made through a telethon campaign to support the construction and resilience of Hawassa International Stadium — a project expected to benefit both and , as well as the wider community.

The stadium was not only expected to elevate the status of sports in the region, but also to contribute economically, socially, culturally, and politically by creating opportunities for youth, promoting tourism, strengthening regional identity, and encouraging unity among the people. Because of this shared vision, citizens, business owners, youth groups, and supporters willingly contributed money with trust and commitment.

However, as time passes, serious public questions continue to emerge:
Where is the money collected through the telethon?
How has it been managed?
Who is responsible for ensuring transparency and accountability?
Why has the community not received clear and consistent information regarding the project’s progress and financial administration?

These concerns are not merely financial questions; they are directly connected to public trust, institutional credibility, and political accountability. When communities contribute resources for public development projects but fail to see transparency and measurable progress, frustration and mistrust naturally increase.

If this issue remains unresolved, it may create long-term negative consequences. It can demoralize citizens and discourage the public from participating in future infrastructure and development initiatives in Sidama Region and Hawassa City. Moreover, it may weaken confidence in leadership, reduce social cohesion, and negatively affect the relationship between the community and responsible institutions.

Public projects funded by community participation require open communication, regular reporting, legal accountability, and ethical leadership. Development cannot be sustained only by collecting money from the people; it must also be protected by honesty, transparency, responsibility, and respect for public trust.

The people deserve a clear explanation, transparent auditing, and responsible leadership regarding the Hawassa International Stadium project. Accountability is not against development — accountability is the foundation of sustainable development and democratic governance.

የሲዳማ ህዝብና የሀዋሳ ከተማ ነዋሪዎች የጋራ ሕልምና ኃላፊነት አካል እንደሆነ፣ ለሀዋሳ ኢንተርናሽናል ስታዲየም ግንባታና ለዘላቂነቱ ድጋፍ በቴሌቶን ትልቅ የሕዝብ መዋጮ ተሰብስቧል። ይህ ፕሮጀክት ለአጠቃላይ ማህበረሰቡ ትልቅ ጥቅም ያለው ተብሎ ይጠበቅ ነበር።

ስታዲየሙ የክልሉን የስፖርት ደረጃ ከፍ ከማድረግ ባለፈ፣ በኢኮኖሚ፣ በማህበራዊ፣ በባህላዊ እና በፖለቲካ ዘርፍ በጎ አስተዋጽኦ እንዲኖረው ታስቦ ነበር። ለወጣቶች ዕድል መፍጠር፣ ቱሪዝምን ማበረታታት፣ የክልሉን መለያነት ማጠናከር እና የህዝብ አንድነትን ማጎልበት የፕሮጀክቱ ዋና ግቦች ነበሩ። በዚህ የጋራ ራዕይ ምክንያት ዜጎች፣ ነጋዴዎች፣ ወጣቶችና ደጋፊዎች በእምነትና በተስፋ ገንዘብ አዋጥተዋል።

ነገር ግን ጊዜ እየተራዘመ በመሄዱ ከህዝቡ ዘንድ ከባድ ጥያቄዎች እየተነሱ ነው፦
በቴሌቶን የተሰበሰበው ገንዘብ የት ገባ?
እንዴት ተተዳደረ?
በዚህ ጉዳይ ተጠያቂ ማነው?
ለህዝቡ ግልፅና ተከታታይ መረጃ ለምን አልቀረበም?

እነዚህ ጥያቄዎች የገንዘብ ጉዳይ ብቻ አይደሉም፤ በቀጥታ ከህዝብ እምነት፣ ከተቋማት ታማኝነት እና ከፖለቲካዊ ተጠያቂነት ጋር የተያያዙ ናቸው። ህዝብ ለልማት ፕሮጀክት ሀብቱን ሲያዋጣ ግልፅነትና ውጤታማ እድገት ካላየ፣ ቅሬታና እምነት ማጣት መፈጠሩ የማይቀር ነው።

ይህ ጉዳይ መፍትሔ ካላገኘ በረጅም ጊዜ አሉታዊ ተፅዕኖ ሊያመጣ ይችላል። በሲዳማ ክልልና በሀዋሳ ከተማ ወደፊት ለሚደረጉ የመሠረተ ልማት ፕሮጀክቶች የህዝብ ተሳትፎን ሊያዳክም ይችላል። ከዚህ በተጨማሪ በአመራሮች ላይ ያለውን እምነት ሊቀንስ፣ ማህበራዊ አንድነትን ሊያዳክም እና በህዝብና በተቋማት መካከል ያለውን ግንኙነት ሊጎዳ ይችላል።

በህዝብ ተሳትፎ የሚከናወኑ የልማት ፕሮጀክቶች ግልፅ ግንኙነት፣ መደበኛ ሪፖርት፣ ሕጋዊ ተጠያቂነት እና ስነ-ምግባራዊ አመራር ይፈልጋሉ። ልማት በህዝብ ገንዘብ መሰብሰብ ብቻ አይቀጥልም፤ በታማኝነት፣ በግልፅነት፣ በኃላፊነት እና በህዝብ እምነት መከበር ላይ መመስረት አለበት።

ስለ ሀዋሳ ኢንተርናሽናል ስታዲየም ፕሮጀክት ህዝቡ ግልፅ ማብራሪያ፣ ግልፅ ኦዲት እና ተጠያቂ አመራር ይጠይቃል። ተጠያቂነት ከልማት ጋር የሚጋጭ አይደለም፤ ተጠያቂነት የዘላቂ ልማትና የዴሞክራሲያዊ አስተዳደር መሠረት ነው።
