🇫🇮 Sofia Pekki selected to the Finnish Olympic Committee's Next Generation Team Finland

In April 2026, Sofia Pekki was selected to the Next Generation Team Finland, the Finnish Olympic Committee's development programme for the country's most promising young athletes.

The programme identifies exceptional athletes aged 15–22 with the potential to reach the highest international level and provides long-term support on their journey towards the world's elite and future Olympic success. Selection is based on performance data, expert evaluations by the national federation, and individual assessment—not through an open application process.

Sofia's selection reflects both her long-term potential and the progress she has already demonstrated on the international stage. Since then, she has continued her impressive rise by winning gold at the Antalya Cadet European Cup and adding bronze and silver medals at the Poznań and Kaunas Junior European Cups, extending her European Cup medal streak to seven consecutive events.

🥈- U21-63kg in European Junior Cup, Kaunas

Sofia Pekki, 16, continues her impressive rise on the international stage. Last Saturday in Kaunas she claimed silver in the U21 Junior Cup, competing against opponents up to three years older.

This marks her 7th consecutive European Cup medal — and a remarkable start in a tougher age group. A clear sign of what’s ahead. 🇫🇮🥋

National Team camp in Pajulahti 04.2026

Following her first U21 EJU Cup in Poznań, Sofia took part in the prestigious Tata Olympic Training Camp in Hungary. The five-day camp brought together hundreds of international judoka, including Olympic, World and European medalists, providing an exceptionally high level of randori and training.

The camp offered Sofia valuable experience against top-level opponents and supported her development towards future international competitions.
