Happy birthday to our founder, Morika Hunter๐๐ด
Five years ago, Morika's love for horses turned into something bigger than any of us imagined, a home for over 40 rescued horses on the banks of Vakabalea. Every adventure, every programme outreach and every act of care on this sanctuary exists because of her heart, her grit, and her refusal to give up on animals nobody else would.
Today we celebrate the woman who leads this place with so much love, wisdom and strength. Vinaka for everything you do, Morika. Here's to another year of you changing lives, one horse at a time.
From all of us, the horses, and the whole Horse Sanctuary Fiji family, happy birthday! ๐๐

It's up!!
Our new roadside entrance sign for the Horse Sanctuary arrived today โ and it's gorgeous!
We're incredibly grateful to Sheena Hughes-Fiji for her amazing generosity gifting us this beautiful, large sign. Thank you, Sheena!!
Our old sign was just as beautiful, but sadly it faded over the years from the weather. It was gifted to us years ago by our wonderful friends Rourou Fiji , Lorraine Reiher Emily Sharp and Loren Eastgate
We're so, so grateful for this incredible community.
Vinaka Sheena!
You know you're at The Horse Sanctuary when you come across a mini mafia gang sneaking into the dog food!

This week we have been focusing on physio and gentle exercises for several of our horses who are now strong and cleared to start training.
The black mare is Bella - she has a heart condition that stunted her growth and development, however, over the past 2 years she made big strides forward, has grown and is a strong girl. She will now be available for Sanctuary adventure walks.
The handsome, gentle boy with the white face is Astra. He has inherited a swayed back but has been cleared by vets for a light rider. He is also ready to be led on Sanctuary hikes through the bamboo forest or along the river.

Sanctuary love!
Highlights from the past week.
We are so grateful to everyone who visits the Sanctuary, as well as our regular Sanctuary families who help us care, groom, walk, and exercise our 41 horses.
Vinaka for the love!

81 and living life to the fullest! ๐
Marlene has been visiting the Sanctuary since its inception. As a young girl she rode horses, but hasn't ridden in many years.
On Saturday she planned to join us simply to walk a horse. But once she arrived and met Kavara, she felt confident enough to ride him โ led along the river and through the bamboo forest.
What an incredibly inspiring lady! At 81 years old, she is living her best life and taking on new adventures.
Kavara was so gentle and loving with her, he truly was the perfect gentleman! ๐
Thank you for the love and support Marlene!

Meet the team!
Meet Ben Toga Bulai
Ben has been with us at the Sanctuary for 5 years.
He has attended all of the free clinics held at the Sanctuary by visiting barefoot hoof specialists and has learnt so much!
He looks after our 41 horses hooves and can expertly file and trim hooves.
We encourage horse owners to take advantage of our various free clinics, so working together, we can improve horse care in Fiji.
A big thank you to Tony Cottrell for taking the time and sharing your expertise with us in the past Barefoot clinics!
