A huge congratulations to Kylie Tucker of Canada on an incredible solo English Channel crossing! What a privilege it was to support such a determined and positive swimmer.

As crew, I had full authority to adapt feeds to suit the conditions and how Kylie was feeling. Early on, she started to lose a little energy, so I switched her onto higher-carbohydrate feeds and adjusted the feeding schedule to keep her fuelled and moving strongly.

She smiled the whole way across—showing why she has the nickname Smiley Kylie—and was an absolute delight to crew for. A porpoise swam close by and she had more than a few close encounters with jellyfish along the way!

As we approached the French coast, timing became everything. I liaised with the pilot Gleeson on Sea Leopard, and made the call to forgo one feed so we could get her across the edge of the tide and into the calmer water leading to the finish. It was the right decision, and she powered home to complete an outstanding swim.

Even after the finish, the fun wasn’t over. Getting her dried and dressed was full of smiles and laughter, and of course no Channel crossing is complete without the traditional post-swim feast—a well-earned Big Mac and fries, which I was delighted to collect and deliver!

Congratulations again, Kylie. It was an honour to be part of your journey alongside the fantastic .ladies crew. Your positivity, resilience and constant smile made this a Channel crossing to remember. 💙🌊👏

Jared was attempting to become #68 Enduroman. Running from Marble Arch in London to Dover, in Kent. He then had to swim the English Channel, before cycling from Calais to the Arc de Triumphe in Paris.

My role was to observe the swim attempt, to ensure that it was completed within the rules, such as not touching the boat during the swim and documenting the start time, place and finish, as well as ensuring the safety of the swimmer. Counting stroke rate, checking if he had passed urine, and was able to respond appropriately to his support crew. It turned out barking at each other was their preferred method of communication

Being a (small) part in somebodies voyage to achieve their dream is emotional and so rewarding. Thank you for having me on board the team

Last week we went to France with our first swimmer from Australia this season, Anthony.

Anthony had been blown out from his window last year so he’d come back to the UK with unfinished business to take care of and an additional year of training, including an impressive 8 hour Derwent River swim at 12 degrees water temp.

Anthony initially had a strict feeding regime of every 30 minutes, but after some conversations he changed that to the 1st feed 1 hour from the start followed by every 30 minutes which could be increased at any time, so that he didn’t over feed and have stomach problems.

We checked what changes in his food and drink we could make if needed, and what decisions were final. Homemade brownies and honey sandwiches were both hits Anthony didn’t know he needed!

Last week we were able to get back out into the English Channel with our 1st solo attempt of the season.

The swimmers pilot contacted him and asked if he could swim earlier than when his window opened and he said yes!

Damon had flown over from Texas, USA to achieve his dream. With his family and friends back home, we became the link between them and Damon, via WhatsApp messages and photos. They knew how and where he was, and Damon was getting encouragement and messages during his swim.

Watching Damon push his mind and body further than he ever had before was a privilege to be part of.
