With its grass wicket and the support of the Mairie de Saumur, SCC is still going strong !

Hello or good afternoon, wherever you are!
2 matches in the week-end (1st time since before Covid, I think).
2 wins for Saumur CC, but that is not the point.
Saturday, we had the pleasure to host FP Hurley Occasionals, who enjoyed visiting our beautiful city and playing on our not so lovely ground (climate change you know, no rain for 2 weeks, 5th heatwave and water restrictions since August 15th) !
Great help from our ex-member Franck and Grand Poitiers Cricket Club - clubs in our region need to assist one another.
Sunday, our friend Pradeep's Aunis Cricket Club team of mainly Frenchmen and youngsters, who have a lot of promise.
We'll see them again this winter at one of our indoor tournament, and they should organise one too.
As usual, STATS, match summaries and where we are in the Club's Points Race.
Next Sunday, our 8 a side tournament la "Coupe d'Automne".
Participating teams : Saumur, Loire cricket Club nantes, Atlantique CC, Grand Poitiers Cricket Club

News, friends of SCC.
Unfortunately, for the 2nd time in a row (after August 2), CC Cricket Club Niortais can't field a team for our Sunday game.
MATCH CANCELLED.
Pity.
Technically, that would mean 2 forfeits. And we woud win the 3-games series 😉
More seriously, this is worrying, because our 3 matches were scheduled since May and everyone ought to know the calendar.
Cricket is always difficult in France, it would be natural to think that when you love the game, every enthusiast would make a note of what is on the radar.
Oh well. Anyway, pitch preparations had been made, so that's one less thing to do for next week-end.

Hello everyone.
We're well into the August hiatus, hoping that the promise of rain this week will come true ! The ground needs it... 🏜
In the meantime, some practice has taken place, plans have been drawn regarding which parts of the square will be used for September-October.
6 events yet to come - weather-willing, as usual...
Cricket Club Niortais - a friendly visiting side JMD Occasionals - Aunis Cricket Club - our now usual Coupe d'Automne (8 a side this year) - Chaillac Cricket Club and finally Sac Club (Standard Meudon) for the 1st time I think (the most senior Club in France).
We'll have both red and white ball matches, final stats to determine Club awards (full season) and Saumur Trophées du Sport nominees (until Sunday 13).

Following on regarding umpiring...
I started working on refreshing the umpiring beginners course we used to have back in the day (between 2005 and 2017, say).
The change in numbering of the Laws of MCC has reshuffled a lot of things, plus the wide-lines trial started in 2025, and various other amendments.
All our local clubs and players in the Nord-Ouest of France can benefit from a 1st module covering the following aspects (we only play limited overs, either red or white ball):
The individual ump : in charge - helping your colleague
Law 2 Calls and Signals
Law 13 The innings - Toss, Interval, Umpiring duties
Law 21 Foot no balls
Law 22 Wide ball (red ball context)
Law 22 Wide ball (white ball/limited overs)
Law 23 Bye and Leg Bye
Law 36 Leg Before Wicket
