Guiding Principles of the Jinenkan Dojo (Budo-kun)
1. Sustain your presence of mind
Wrath and impatiance cloud your vision, and deprive you of your natural movement
2. Avoid overconfidence in yourself
You will be unable to adapt properly to circumstances
3. Accept the whole universe without protest
In this way, you will not fall into the opponent’s strategies
4. Have no stagnation in your technique
In this way, you will not be taken advantage of by the opponent
5. Bring out the ”flavor” of the technique
At such times, you will be able to move at your best
Practice proper basics repeatedly
and you will be able to always have natural movment

I've always had something of a soft spot for Jigen Ryu, here is a piece about the system from NHK World's "Cycle around Japan" show.....
In a variety of ways, 2020 hasn't been a particularly good year and with regards to our dojo, the pandemic situation has led to the ability to hold training sessions being dramatically curtailed.
As we go into 2021, there is no immediate sign of the situation changing although change will undoubtedly come and at some point during the year, we are likely to be able to return to some sort of normality but until that happens, all we can do at present is to keep going as best we can.
Here's hoping that however 2020 was for you, that 2021 will be a better year and may you be happy, healthy and prosperous over the coming 12 months........

Tonight saw the first our post-lockdown outdoor adult training session covering Chudan Kangi 中段扞技 and Gedan Kangi 下段扞技 from Shoden level of the Kukishin school’s Rokushaku Bojutsu (Six foot staff techniques).

See you again, same time next week………
This picture popped up on my facebook memories today. It’s the Bugo 武号 (martial arts name) that I received from Manaka Sensei at the start of the first Jinenkan Dojocho seminar which was held ten years ago.
The next seminar, which will be the sixth, is due to take place later this year. Unfortunately, with the current pandemic situation, it’s uncertain whether it will or not……..

Ishikawa Goemon is a 16th Century figure who has been dubbed the “Japanese Robin Hood”. He is considered by some to have been a ninja and there are stories that he attempted to assassinate Oda Nobunaga.
Goemon is something of a folk hero who has been portrayed in numerous films and plays. On Wednesday, NHKWorld’s “Kabuki Kool” series has a programme looking at his popularity in Kabuki plays which may (or may not) be interesting……
