🟣 RESULT 🟣

🏆 Aberfield are going to the cup final! 🏆

This morning Aberfield took on Inverdee in the semi-final of the Aimin Elmegirab cup, a repeat fixture from last year which saw Inverdee progress with a last minute winner. Remembering both that game, and the 4-3 defeat with 3 late goals conceded just 2 weeks ago, Aberfield wanted to redeem themselves and get a result today.

The game started strong, with chances being carved out by both teams, but nothing clear cut to break the deadlock. That changed on the 20 minute mark when a poor back pass was picked up by the Inverdee winger, who was promptly pulled to the ground by GK Joe, giving the referee no option but to show a straight red. 🟥 CB Scott donned the gloves and his first action was to save the Inverdee penalty, though unfortunately the rebound was put away by the Inverdee RW to put them 1 up alongside their man advantage, 0-1.

5 minutes later and things went from bad to worse, with a defence mixup saw the Inverdee ST looking at an empty net and tucking away to double their lead, 0-2. Aberfield’s heads never dropped, and with an immediate response required, CB Danny got his head onto RW Greg’s corner with 5 minutes until half-time to bring it back, 1-2. 🟣

The formation change at half-time to push the attack harder didn’t immediately work out, with Inverdee scoring a great free kick just 10 minutes into the second half to reclaim their 2 goal lead, 1-3. Not getting flustered by the scoreline, Aberfield maintained focus and threw a lot at the Inverdee backline and immediately brought the game to within 1, with ST Chris the quickest to react and calmly slot away, 2-3. 🟣

Aberfield still had a lot of work to do, particularly with being a player down, but never lost the head and kept applying the pressure. A long ball took Chris out to the left where he coolly turned the Inverdee defender and squared the ball across the box for ST Tyrone to place it and bring us level, 3-3. 🟣

Dissent from an Inverdee defender resulted in a red card, bringing the game to 10v10. With momentum fully in Aberfield’s favour this had to be capitalised on, and just 5 minutes later Chris found himself in the same position again, turned the defender again and this time buried it himself to give Aberfield the lead for the first time in the game with 15 minutes remaining, 4-3. 🟣

A nervy moment shortly after saw CM Dylan sent off for a second yellow (both very soft). 🟨🟨🟥 The remaining 9 men knew what to do and tightened things up and locked everything out, frustrating Inverdee to the point that they then had another player sent off for dissent to the referee.

With the game now at 9v9, Aberfield felt the pressure from Inverdee, who were throwing everything at us. In injury time, the Inverdee keeper joined the attack, but Aberfield managed to clear their lines, getting the ball to Chris who poked it deep into the Inverdee half. Cue LM Fred driving through the middle of the pitch from his own half to retrieve the ball in the box with nobody else near him. The ball was stopped on the line and headered in (total sh*tebag behaviour 😂) to put the game to bed, 5-3. 🟣

Great spirit shown by every player on the pitch. At 2-down, the game could’ve slipped further and further away but great teamwork and determination saw the result swing in Aberfield’s favour.

Based on the attitudes and great team performance, it wasn’t the easiest to pick a MOTM as so many players fought so hard and played their best game of the season. However, for his 4 goal contributions and keeping going to the end despite being dead on his feet, the MOTM today is Chris. Took his goals well, great first assist, and dropping deep to help defend the lead is what saw the ball come to his feet at the end before the last goal went in. 5-star performance ⭐️

This result takes Aberfield to our first ever cup final. Very well deserved after a season of narrow losses and good wins. Details to follow about time and location of the final.

🟣 RESULT 🟣

Tonight was Aberfield’s penultimate league game of the season, vs Heathryfold.

Aberfield got off to a flying start, with LW Colin playing a great switch to RW Greg who put a screamer into the top corner within 2 minutes. 1-0 🟣

It only took another 4 minutes before the lead was doubled - a free kick by CB Scott somehow went through/over the Heathryfold keeper who should’ve done better. 2-0 🟣

Chance after chance came and went for the next ten minutes, with nothing making it into the Heathryfold net again, until a great break down the left from Colin saw ST Dylan given the easiest finish at the back post to make it 3-0 🟣

Immediately after the restart a mix up at the back saw Heathryfold get one back against the run of play. 3-1.

This woke Aberfield up a bit, as some complacency was creeping in and things were feeling too comfortable. A great response came ten minutes later as the ball went down the left again with captain Bob looping the ball over for Greg to bury another at the back post and double his tally. This 2-goal game thing is becoming a good habit for him. 4-1 🟣

Just a few minutes later, Colin showed great resilience down that familiarly exploited left wing to win a loose ball back and get his goal for the evening and make it 5-1 going in at half time 🟣

A few changes were made early in the second half with immediate impact on the pitch. CM Kami linked well with CM Aiden and got off the mark in an Aberfield shirt, scoring low to the keeper’s left from outside the box. 6-1 🟣

3 minutes later RW Rennie tore past a few Heathryfold defenders and rifled a low and hard cross to the back post where Dylan was laying in wait and doubled his own tally to make it 7-1. 🟣

More terrorising down the wings paid off, with Rennie again tormenting the LB before coolly finishing to make it 8 on the night. 8-1 🟣

Another defensive hiccup came a couple of minutes later with an OG bringing the scoreline to 8-2 🟣

The final 15 minutes played out with no further goals and the final whistle came, bringing to an end a strong performance all across the park. Truth be told, it should have been 18 tonight rather than 8.

MOTM performance yet again for LW Colin - from first whistle to last he was relentless up and down the wing, bagging a goal and 3 assists.

🟣RESULT🟣

A hard fought match vs Inverdee 🥊

Inverdee took an early lead which didn’t last long before Aberfield took the game in at the half leading 3-1.

The second half did not go our way though and this time it was Inverdees turn to make the come back finishing the game 4-3 🥲

The lads were unlucky to not keep the winning streak alive but we go again 💪

🟣 RESULT 🟣

This morning Aberfield took on league veterans Malibu, looking for revenge after defeat earlier in the season.

It only took 4 minutes to break the deadlock, with captain CDM Bob heading home from a corner from RW Greg, 1-0 🟣

Aberfield kept the pressure on, taking control of the game and knocking the ball around well. A few chances not taken but good momentum carried, with it only being a matter of time before the lead was extended.

19 minutes in and RW Greg doubled his goal involvements for the game, capitalising on a poor header by a Malibu defender and executing a fantastic Gareth Bale-esque overhead kick*, 2-0 🟣

*Didn’t leave the ground, nothing like Bale at all, but counts the same 😎

2 minutes later and RW Greg further swung the game in Aberfield’s favour, with a rifled shot which beat the Malibu keeper at his near post, 3-0 🟣

Aberfield maintained great control of the game for the remainder of the first half, with Malibu barely getting a look in. HT 3-0.

The second half started a little slower, but the rhythm of the game stayed with Aberfield. A few chances came and went, with them all being in one direction. Like with the first half, it felt like it was just a matter of time before another goal was to come.

Cue CDM Bob doubling his tally with just under 10 minutes to go, putting a rocket to the keeper’s right from 25 yards to put the game to bed 🚀 4-0 🟣

Aberfield looked for a 5th but it didn’t come, despite there being plenty chances in the last few minutes. FT 4-0.

A very comfortable outing from start to finish, never in doubt. An excellent team performance with great cohesion, great communication and some really good football played. A joy to watch and not nervy at any point. The defence were solid from start to finish, and the wingers were constantly up and down the flanks. It was the midfield that ruled the game today however, with CDM Bob, CM Kami and CM Aiden linking up excellently all game and making it look all too easy. The game was so in Aberfield’s favour that ST James was even afforded a 2 minute cameo, seeing the pitch for the first time in over a year.

MOTM was tough to decide today, as so many of the boys were top class, but edging it today was CM Aiden; always the correct decisions made, solid tackles when necessary, key passes when necessary, skinning folk when necessary. Couldn’t ask for more. 🙌🏻

🟣 RESULT 🟣

This morning Aberfield took on East End in the 1/4 final of the Aimin Elmegirab cup.

The game started with the ref dishing out yellow cards within 30 seconds and setting a very one sided tone from the off. It didn’t seem to phase the boys as ST Sam drilled a great effort beyond the keeper’s outstretched right hand to go one up just before the half hour mark ⚽️ 1-0.

Aberfield were forced into a couple of early changes in the first half through injury but managed to settle things down and hold on the lead until half time. HT 1-0.

East End came out flying in the second half and capitalised on a lazy Aberfield to equalise just 2 minutes into the second half, 1-1. Still half asleep Aberfield were put on the back foot again 2 minutes later. WB Greg was taken to the ground while in possession, the East End player crumpling down with him and somehow winning a penalty which they converted to go ahead, 1-2.

10 minutes later CM Aiden rifled a cracker at the keeper’s near post from out on the right which snuck inside the post to bring Aberfield back level, 2-2.

Aberfield managed to hold on against the 12 men to see out the 90, taking the tie straight to penalties.

—-

East End were first up, stumbling to a solid save from GK Joe across to his right, 0-0

ST Sam stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way to give Aberfield the advantage, 1-0.

Another East End bottle job saw Joe make another save via the woodwork, 1-0.

CM Fred calmly slotted away to heap the pressure on, 2-0. 👉🏿😎

East End managed their first consolation by sneaking one just out of Joe’s reach, 2-1.

RW Rennie recovered the advantage by putting the keeper the wrong way, 3-1.

East End clawed another back to make it 3-2.

CB Danny had the opportunity to put the shootout to bed, but obviously enjoyed the drama and shat it, placing a soft penalty to the East End keeper to keep their dreams alive (😂), 3-2.

Give East End’s #17 his dues - great penalty low and hard to make it even with one to go for Aberfield, 3-3.

CB Scott stepped up and made no mistake, rifling it away to put us through 4-3.

A game that should’ve been buttoned up in the 90, but Aberfield love to make it difficult.

MOTM during the 90 was CM Kami - solid throughout the game, calm and composed in the middle of the park. A commanding performance from the first whistle to the last.

MOTM and hero thereafter is GK Joe for his shootout heroics. The 2 early saves set the tone quickly and eased the pressure for everyone except Danny 🙄😁

All the best to East End for the remainder of the season, respect. 🤡

Onward to the semi-finals we go. 🏆🟣

🟣RESULT🟣

A scrappy win against Heathryfold today but the boys got it done 💪

Kick off was delayed by 20 mins while Heathryfold waited for their players to turn up but when we got going we started strong and kept them pinned back in the own half before Winger Greg W bundled in a low cross making it 1-0.
Aberfield’s second came not long after Tik Toks Tyrone Reid put a corner on to CB Scott’s head which he sent looping over the keeper 2-0.
Just before the half ST Dylan pelvic thrusted a low cross and managed to put ball into the back of the net making it 3-0 at the half.

Second half we were up will with the wind against us. Keeper Joe got caught off his line with a goal kick which went bouncing over him making it 3-1.
In typical Heathryfold fashion they gave away a pen which was coldly converted by CB Murdo followed by a double Suuii which made the game 4-1 at full time.

Aberfield make it 2 on the bounce after beating Westhill 4-3 last week in a close contest.

MOTM: Fredrick Okyere

Vs Heathryfold:

🟣 RESULT 🟣

This morning’s league fixture with Westhill saw Aberfield breeze by and take all 3 points with a solid, dominating performance from the first whistle to the last.

It only took 10 minutes for the game to show up its first notable point - a header from captain Robert was saved off the line… by one of Westhill’s defenders. Straight red and a penalty awarded 🟥 Unfortunately CM Cailean had his spot kick saved from the Westhill GK, proving the #7 shirt is cursed from the spot after the same happened last season 👀

Aberfield piled on the pressure and should have taken the lead with a header from ST Dylan which came back off the underside of the bar and was cleared away. Shortly after - on the 20 minute mark - Dylan did find the back of the net, shooting low past the keeper. 1-0.

10 minutes later a slack pass back by Westhill was intercepted by Dylan who rounded the keeper and trickled the ball to the back post where LW Rennie piled the ball in to double the lead. 2-0.

Aberfield then switched off a bit and didn’t create much more before the half-time whistle. HT 2-0.

Instructed to go out and put the game to bed, Rennie doubled his tally for the day by wrong-footing the GK and driving it low to his right just 5 minutes into the 2nd half after a corner from Cailean landed at his feet on the edge of the box. 3-0.

Debutant RW Greg came on and was quick to get in on the action, looping a shot over the GK from a slick through ball from Rennie with 20 minutes to go. 4-0.

Aberfield looked pretty relaxed for the rest of the game, moving the ball around well and creating a number of chances which should’ve been capitalised on; it could very easily have been nearer to double figures if there was a bit more composure shown.

Just a couple of minutes from time a penalty was awarded to Westhill for a foul from Robert which was almost unnoticeable. GK David did what he does best and saved yet another penalty (5 from 6) to keep his clean sheet.

A very well deserved 3 points, with it looking like a sure thing from the start. Now that the boys are back to winning ways we are hoping to take this form into our next fixture TBC.

MOTM - Rennie. Terrorised the Westhill back line and had 3 goal contributions from 4. Great performance. ⭐️
