⚽ Aberfield FC – Manager/Coach Wanted ⚽

Aberfield FC are looking for a volunteer Manager/Coach to join our Sunday League setup and help drive the team forward. We’re looking for someone reliable and enthusiastic who can help with training drills, team selection and tactics, take charge of the touchline on matchdays and provide a little support with general team admin. Training takes place on Thursday evenings at Sheddocksley Sports Complex, with matches on Sunday mornings. Previous coaching or management experience would be a bonus but isn’t essential — if you’ve got a good football brain, enjoy being around the game and fancy getting involved with a great group of lads, we’d love to hear from you. Drop the page a message for a chat or more information. Shares appreciated! ⚽💜

Aberfield Fall Short to Westhill

Aberfield 4–5 Westhill

Aberfield were narrowly beaten in a nine-goal thriller against Westhill despite fighting back to level the game on three separate occasions.

Westhill opened the scoring after 10 minutes before Colin Bain reacted quickest to a goalmouth scramble from a corner to make it 1–1.

The visitors regained the lead with a ball over the top, but Aberfield responded immediately. Greg Wilson picked out Chris Farquhar with a lofted through ball, and the striker calmly finished to level at 2–2.

Another Westhill goal before the break saw the visitors go in 3–2 ahead at half-time.

Aberfield started the second half strongly, with Farquhar flicking a free kick into the path of Wilson, who finished to make it 3–3. Westhill responded again to restore their lead at 4–3.

On 70 minutes, Tyrone Reid was brought down and Aberfield were awarded a penalty. Wilson stepped up and converted for his second of the game, making it 4–4

With both teams pushing for the winner, Westhill struck on the counter to score the decisive goal and secure a 5–4 victory.

A frustrating result for Aberfield, but plenty of positives to take from the performance with only two league games played. The lads know where improvements are needed and will look to bounce back next time out.

Best of luck to Westhill with the rest of their season.

🔥 ABERFIELD ARE BACK! 🔥

ABERFIELD 4-0 INVERDEE 💜⚽️

A fantastic first and only pre-season outing for the lads with just one week to go until the season starts!

Aberfield started strongly, with Greg Wilson opening the scoring after a brilliant through ball from new signing David Nisbet. Greg then doubled his tally shortly after, finishing calmly following a long ball from Joe Still.

Club captain Robert Gillespie then produced an absolute worldie from almost inside his own half, spotting the Inverdee keeper off his line and lobbing him to make it 3-0 at half time! 🚀

The second half saw a number of changes, with Joe Still making some important saves and new signing Aidan McPherson producing a brilliant goal-line clearance.

Aberfield eventually added a fourth through Tyrone Reid, who calmly finished after a great ball across the box from Sean Adam.

🟣🏆 AIMIN ELMEGIRAB CUP FINAL DETAILS 🏆🟣

Aberfield’s first cup final will be tomorrow, 31/05/26, at Catto Park in Cove. Kick-off time 2:00 p.m.

Our opponents will be Stornoway Society, a solid side that won the lower half of the league split quite comfortably this season, and who have always been a bogey team for Aberfield in any previous meetings - drawing with us on our first clash and then winning the next two. If ever there was a time to turn that around, it is tomorrow. 🟣

It would be great to see some familiar faces on the sideline to cheer the boys on as they play for the club’s first chance at silverware. 🏆

🟣 RESULT 🟣

🏆 Aberfield are going to the cup final! 🏆

This morning Aberfield took on Inverdee in the semi-final of the Aimin Elmegirab cup, a repeat fixture from last year which saw Inverdee progress with a last minute winner. Remembering both that game, and the 4-3 defeat with 3 late goals conceded just 2 weeks ago, Aberfield wanted to redeem themselves and get a result today.

The game started strong, with chances being carved out by both teams, but nothing clear cut to break the deadlock. That changed on the 20 minute mark when a poor back pass was picked up by the Inverdee winger, who was promptly pulled to the ground by GK Joe, giving the referee no option but to show a straight red. 🟥 CB Scott donned the gloves and his first action was to save the Inverdee penalty, though unfortunately the rebound was put away by the Inverdee RW to put them 1 up alongside their man advantage, 0-1.

5 minutes later and things went from bad to worse, with a defence mixup saw the Inverdee ST looking at an empty net and tucking away to double their lead, 0-2. Aberfield’s heads never dropped, and with an immediate response required, CB Danny got his head onto RW Greg’s corner with 5 minutes until half-time to bring it back, 1-2. 🟣

The formation change at half-time to push the attack harder didn’t immediately work out, with Inverdee scoring a great free kick just 10 minutes into the second half to reclaim their 2 goal lead, 1-3. Not getting flustered by the scoreline, Aberfield maintained focus and threw a lot at the Inverdee backline and immediately brought the game to within 1, with ST Chris the quickest to react and calmly slot away, 2-3. 🟣

Aberfield still had a lot of work to do, particularly with being a player down, but never lost the head and kept applying the pressure. A long ball took Chris out to the left where he coolly turned the Inverdee defender and squared the ball across the box for ST Tyrone to place it and bring us level, 3-3. 🟣

Dissent from an Inverdee defender resulted in a red card, bringing the game to 10v10. With momentum fully in Aberfield’s favour this had to be capitalised on, and just 5 minutes later Chris found himself in the same position again, turned the defender again and this time buried it himself to give Aberfield the lead for the first time in the game with 15 minutes remaining, 4-3. 🟣

A nervy moment shortly after saw CM Dylan sent off for a second yellow (both very soft). 🟨🟨🟥 The remaining 9 men knew what to do and tightened things up and locked everything out, frustrating Inverdee to the point that they then had another player sent off for dissent to the referee.

With the game now at 9v9, Aberfield felt the pressure from Inverdee, who were throwing everything at us. In injury time, the Inverdee keeper joined the attack, but Aberfield managed to clear their lines, getting the ball to Chris who poked it deep into the Inverdee half. Cue LM Fred driving through the middle of the pitch from his own half to retrieve the ball in the box with nobody else near him. The ball was stopped on the line and headered in (total sh*tebag behaviour 😂) to put the game to bed, 5-3. 🟣

Great spirit shown by every player on the pitch. At 2-down, the game could’ve slipped further and further away but great teamwork and determination saw the result swing in Aberfield’s favour.

Based on the attitudes and great team performance, it wasn’t the easiest to pick a MOTM as so many players fought so hard and played their best game of the season. However, for his 4 goal contributions and keeping going to the end despite being dead on his feet, the MOTM today is Chris. Took his goals well, great first assist, and dropping deep to help defend the lead is what saw the ball come to his feet at the end before the last goal went in. 5-star performance ⭐️

This result takes Aberfield to our first ever cup final. Very well deserved after a season of narrow losses and good wins. Details to follow about time and location of the final.

🟣 RESULT 🟣

Tonight was Aberfield’s penultimate league game of the season, vs Heathryfold.

Aberfield got off to a flying start, with LW Colin playing a great switch to RW Greg who put a screamer into the top corner within 2 minutes. 1-0 🟣

It only took another 4 minutes before the lead was doubled - a free kick by CB Scott somehow went through/over the Heathryfold keeper who should’ve done better. 2-0 🟣

Chance after chance came and went for the next ten minutes, with nothing making it into the Heathryfold net again, until a great break down the left from Colin saw ST Dylan given the easiest finish at the back post to make it 3-0 🟣

Immediately after the restart a mix up at the back saw Heathryfold get one back against the run of play. 3-1.

This woke Aberfield up a bit, as some complacency was creeping in and things were feeling too comfortable. A great response came ten minutes later as the ball went down the left again with captain Bob looping the ball over for Greg to bury another at the back post and double his tally. This 2-goal game thing is becoming a good habit for him. 4-1 🟣

Just a few minutes later, Colin showed great resilience down that familiarly exploited left wing to win a loose ball back and get his goal for the evening and make it 5-1 going in at half time 🟣

A few changes were made early in the second half with immediate impact on the pitch. CM Kami linked well with CM Aiden and got off the mark in an Aberfield shirt, scoring low to the keeper’s left from outside the box. 6-1 🟣

3 minutes later RW Rennie tore past a few Heathryfold defenders and rifled a low and hard cross to the back post where Dylan was laying in wait and doubled his own tally to make it 7-1. 🟣

More terrorising down the wings paid off, with Rennie again tormenting the LB before coolly finishing to make it 8 on the night. 8-1 🟣

Another defensive hiccup came a couple of minutes later with an OG bringing the scoreline to 8-2 🟣

The final 15 minutes played out with no further goals and the final whistle came, bringing to an end a strong performance all across the park. Truth be told, it should have been 18 tonight rather than 8.

MOTM performance yet again for LW Colin - from first whistle to last he was relentless up and down the wing, bagging a goal and 3 assists.
