[09/04/21]   Our Summer Stroll Strava (Moon Mission) account has been hacked time and time again (mostly by some very keen German folk).

The first time I was able to clear/block/report all of the offending accounts (and ensure that the account had proper settings in place) and continue to retrieve everyone's mileage but the fact is that this has kept happening so, clearly the problem is coming from a current follower.

The only remaining action is to close down the Summer Stroll Strava account and also the Moon Mission. I still have a current total (approx halfway) which I will add to our total when Summer Stroll 2 starts on 1st July 2022.

Michele Richardson, our Dementia Connect Local Services Manager in North Wales, was invited to Colwyn Bay Crematorium to collect a cheque for an incredible £10,000. The money was donated to us from the crematorium's recycling scheme.

The donation will help families affected by all aspects of dementia in Conwy and right across Wales. A huge diolch yn fawr iawn to Conwy County Borough Council for all of your support.

[08/13/21]   ATTENTION FOOTY FANS:

As you know the new Premier League season kicks off tonight and so too does Season 7 of a PL Predictor Game that is run by our admins.

It is FREE to play but there is a fine system in place for any poor scores (which adds up to anything between £1 and £5 over the season, depending on how good or bad you are!), and these fines can be paid by card straight to our donation page at the end of the season (N.B. we won't take any card details as this is just a bit of fun and the paying of the fines are in the form of a charitable donation which of course is voluntary).

If you fancy joining us this season then just comment below or DM us. All we need is an email address. Martin will send you the (very simple) entry sheet along with the Game 1 fixtures which will need to be sent back today.

The more the merrier. Cheers.

We understand that dementia affects everyone differently. So whether you, a loved one, a friend or neighbour needs dementia support, we’re here for you.

Since the coronavirus pandemic began, over 5 million people have accessed Alzheimer’s Society services, including Dementia Connect. This vital support has been a real lifeline for thousands of people affected by dementia during the crisis.
98% of people affected by dementia who contacted Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Connect support line, and took part in the evaluation, felt the dementia adviser they spoke to understood their needs.

99% of people who took part in the evaluation felt they were given enough time to discuss their concerns when they spoke to a dementia adviser face to face and 98% felt that the Dementia Adviser understood their needs and were provided with useful information. 92% of those surveyed felt more able to manage having spoken to a dementia adviser face to face.

Call Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Connect support line on 0333 150 3456 or 0330 094 7400 (Welsh), visit alzheimers.org.uk/dementiaconnect or email [email protected]

SUMMER STROLL 2 - 1st and 2nd JULY 2022.

Hopefully this date will be third time lucky, having postponed last year and this due to the pandemic.

Starting on the afternoon of Friday 1st July from the CCC Penrhos Depot and finishing sometime in the afternoon/evening of Saturday 2nd July with an almighty homecoming party and fundraiser at the Black Lion in Llanbadarn Fawr.

Proceeds split between Wales Air Ambulance, Alzheimers Society Cymru, Llwyn yr Eos Minibus Appeal, Jubilee Storehouse and Animal Rescue Cymru.

Stay tuned. x

[03/25/21]   Hi all.

Summer Stroll 2 is due to take place 3 months from today but, as we still don't know what kind of world we'll have on 25th June and what we will and won't be allowed to do, the big walk involving support vehicles, pub stops and finishing parties will have to wait until 2022.

However, as a group we will put our heads together to see if we could plan something for 25th June this year, whether in the form of something virtual or maybe a scaled down event to try and get donations moving again and ticking over until next Summer.

Thanks and stay tuned. x

Angharad, 15 is taking part in Run for Dementia – and she has already run more than 100 miles. During lockdown Angharad, from a village near Wrexham, took up running and wanted to use her new hobby to help others.

She said: “Dementia is a terrible illness which unfortunately has visited our family a few times. Only last year, we lost my Naina – my mum’s mum – and we still miss her terribly. February marked a year since our loss and it felt fitting that I could mark it in this positive way. It gave me an opportunity to concentrate on trying to help others while thinking of her and doing something I really enjoy.

“My run is therefore my attempt – however small - to remember her and support thousands of others facing the same challenges day in day out.”

Has your weekend been CENTRE-D around the rugby? Or are you going to PASS?

Either way, sit BACK and enjoy!

Sorry for the puns, we'll TRY better going FORWARD.

Pete is a musician and teacher and used to teach alongside Paul Harvey creating many musical productions. After seeing the decline in Paul’s condition, he was moved by how fired up he would become when he sat on the piano. The fingers that before might have fumbled with a cup of tea now became nimble and agile. So Pete took pen to paper and has written a tribute to Paul Harvey, ‘Song to Paul Harvey’ which he hopes tries to capture his witnessing of Paul’s apparent rejuvenation through his music. A percentage of the money raised from the single will be donated to Alzheimer’s Society. Thank you, Pete, for your wonderful support #MusicAndDementia
