End of an era? Not quite!
Tubular tyres bade farewell to the Tour de France in 2025, with Cofidis, the last team using the technology, switched to a tubeless clincher system, ending over a century of dominance for these glue-on super tyres.
Read the link which summarises the peloton's switch, starting with a World Time Trial win in 2011 by Tony Martin on Continental Grand Prix TT clincher tyres.
However, as the UK's biggest distributor of bicycle tyres over the past three decades, including a ton of tubular tyre sales, we can maybe shed a bit of light on where tubulars now sit in the table of market demand..
Have tubulars died off completely? No, whilst demand has dropped by approx. 85%, we still see demand from the following categories :
Wheelchair sports
Amateur individuals (road & triathlon - possibly with older wheelsets)
Track (Federations & Individuals)
Retro / Nostalgia collectors
What tubs are still available? We sell Continental products, one of the top manufacturers of tubulars. The Sprinter and Competition models are still in production, including the popular training model, the Sprinter Gatorskin - still selling well! For the track, the range has been reduced, however the Sonderklasse still seems to be available currently.
Will we see a continued decline?
If you read the article, it would suggest so. However, tubs still have their benefits and an appeal to certain cyclists and wheelchair sports athletes as noted above. We believe that there is a limited demand, however the ball lies with the manufacturers. If wheel availability becomes scarce, especially as newer, lighter models become available without a 'sprint' option, then tyre manufacturers would probably follow suit, making it less attractive for fans to stick with tubs..
Did you know? A World Tour team were buying Competition tubulars from Cambrian Tyres in the early 2010's in order to ensure they gave their riders the best tyres available at that time. They went on to win several Tours de France over that period ;-)

Continental at the Tour de France 2025
It’s that time again – the Tour de France is rolling, and Continental are at the centre of the action as a main sponsor and exclusive tyre partner.
There are 10 teams riding Continental high-performance bicycle tyres at the 2025 edition! Keep an eye out for teams riding either the Grand Prix 5000 S TR, Grand Prix 5000 TT TR, AERO 111, or the new Tour de France special edition.
In addition, the 30 Kawasaki Versys 1100 race support motorbikes are relying on the tried-and-tested ContiRoadAttack 4. This means that all official Tour vehicles are using the German premium tyre manufacturer for the first time!
Using the 120/70 R 17 and 180/55 R 17 sizes, the ContiRoadAttack 4 is particularly suitable for the support motorcycles of the world’s most famous road bicycle race due to its fast warm-up time and excellent grip both in single-digit temperatures at Alpe d’Huez and in the heat of Provence!

Team Kerr rolling on Continental GP4Seasons 🙌🙌
Why does inclusion matter so much to us?
The world isn’t built for adults with complex needs.
If you are an adult with a mild/moderate learning disability there are various clubs, organisations, and possibly job opportunities once you leave school, but for those with complex needs the only option is to attend a day centre. We explored this for Aaron, but he made it clear that he wasn’t comfortable, and if we are being honest, neither were we, but understand that it works for some, and often may be the only option.
We have created our own opportunities & experiences for Aaron since then, achieving a lot with very limited resources. Ice skating, theatre, cinema, swimming to name just a few, all trying to give Aaron the best quality of life. It is never easy as the majority of time we are the only ones attending, with all eyes on us. Sadly, adults with complex needs are viewed & treated very differently to children with complex needs. It has taken time, but we have learnt to manage any negativity that comes our way.
Running has really opened up Aaron’s world, enabled him to be very much part of the community and given him confidence to try these new things. We feel lucky that we are in a position to be able to do these with Aaron as not all adults with complex needs will have this level of support and that is why we feel so strongly about inclusion. Aaron, and others in a similar position have the right to participate in life alongside everyone else, enjoying all it has to offer without fear.
It is easy to hide indoors, we completely understand why people do and have often felt this ourselves in the past, isolated and vulnerable, but we decided that if things have a chance of changing for people with complex needs then the only way to do that is to step outside of our comfort zone and be visible.
That is why inclusion matters to us 💚

Cornering like we’re on rails….. 🧑🦽🏃♀️🏃♂️
Of the 54 marathons we have run, Aaron’s Great Big Green Running Machine which was built right here in Northern Ireland has helped us get to the finish line of 27 of those, as well as many other running adventures over the years.
When the last of our ‘shop’ bought chairs broke, leaving us off the road back in 2017 we decided to go down the custom built route. After a few false starts we were put in touch with a wonderful engineer called Brian who helped us design Aaron’s chair and we haven’t looked back 💚
Whilst we get lots of shout outs, hi-5’s, lovely comments and recognition, it is people like Brian and others who make all that possible.
We feel very lucky to have met some wonderful people who believe in inclusion as much as we do 💚

Here's to another season of Cambrian Tyres supporting the Tofauti Junior Team who fly the GB flag so well in the European scene in addition to supporting the domestic racing calendar.
The men's and women's teams have already been busy in 2025 with some notable strong performances.
As we are now well into the spring classics season, the men's team have received some great news - an invitation to the junior version of Paris Roubaix on the 13th April!
