Hafod Estate

Comments

Just back from another stunning week in this amazing location and already counting days until we return in October. Have photographed the Gothic Arcade several times before but if I do say so myself, this time I think I nailed it.
learn about the trees to get more out of your woodland walks ...we know woodlands are healing spaces :D

LOST WALLET
Hey, so we've lost a brown leather wallet we may have dropped up by the entrance to the Hafod (first gated entrance coming up the hill from ysbyty). Or by the car park area by the river. If anyone's picked it up that would be fab or of anyone's seen it.
Long shot I know.
Thank you.
Did anyone pick up up a dark grey M&S gilet from the picnic tables down by the river last night or this morning? Went to retrieve it this morning at 10.30am and it wasn't there :-(
Been wandering this amazing place for the last 15 Years since my Wife found it by accident. Never get tired of its magic and will be back soon as possible.
Our car (dark grey Passat estate) was damaged (near side rear bumper has had quite a bang) by another vehicle (we think a white car) on Saturday 17th October between 10.20am and 1.30pm in The Arch car park, if anyone witnessed anything please contact me (reported to 101) Thank you / Diolch

My wife and I did the Gentlemans walk yesterday.
WOW what a fantastic pace , we were blown away with the scenery and both agreed it was one of our top walks ever.
Also all the signs were easy to follow.
We look forward to doing more of the trails when we are back in October.
Thanks for allowing access to your wonderful land
♥️♥️
An idyllic place to escape the crowds...
I don't know if this post is allowed on the Hafod Estate page so if its not then please just delete it. Myself and a group of friends head out each Sunday for a run, preferably on trails, somewhere in Mid Wales. These are photos taken on our run last week (19th Jan 2020) around some of the paths on the Hafod Estate. As you can see from the pictures it was a cold morning with one side of the valley frosted and white, while on the other side the Sun had done it's work so it was a normal green and brown colours.
Such a beautiful walk round the hafod estate with great views and stunning falls.

Welcome to the first instalment of Monument of the Week! Each week we will highlight one of the thousands of ‘monuments’ which we, as the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historic Monuments of Wales, have been recording since 1908.

A ‘monument’ broadly defined is any building, landscape, archaeological or maritime site of historical importance and interest, and this week’s monument is the Jubilee Arch near Devils Bridge, Ceredigion.

The rubble stone arch was probably built as an 'eyecatcher' by Thomas Johnes of the Hafod Uchtryd estate to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of George III’s accession in 1810. This photo was taken a year before the arch was restored in 1964. The arch spanned the old turnpike road that was then the main route from Aberystwyth to London.

It is listed Grade II* as a picturesque Gothic stone arch of considerable scale, a rarity in Wales, and as an important element of the picturesque estate created by Thomas Johnes of Hafod.

See our record here: https://coflein.gov.uk/en/site/23021

Bedford Monument Walk (Moderate; 1.6 km)

A short and relatively gentle walk, with two short steeper sections. There are good views over the estate, especially from the obelisk. Mariamne’s Garden can be visited from this route.

🌳The Lady’s Walk (Moderate : 3.6 KM)🌳

One of two classic circular routes created by Thomas Johnes in his first years at Hafod and described by many early visitors. It takes in scenery that varies widely in character, contrasting the relatively gentle landscape of open parkland with narrow wooded valleys and rushing streams.

Dogs have to be kept under control at all times. When crossing fields dogs must be kept on lead as we have Ewes with their lambs grazing in some fields.

Here's a view of our new pond as far as we got it today from the w**dy hole in the ground it was this morning. Given the rain that's forecast for tomorrow it's likely to be full in 24 hours!

We'll bring you more of this excellent feature for biodiversity as it develops. We love it already.
