☀️ U18s at Launton 5-a-Side Tournament ☀️

Our U18 girls entered only their second-ever women’s tournament today and what a day they had!

With two teams entered 🩷Pinks (5 players) and Blues 💙(6 players) they took on a strong field of adult women’s teams in the sunshine and more than held their own.

💙 Both teams finished 3rd and 4th in their groups, each losing just one group game all day.

⚽ Both progressed to the Plate Last 16, then through the Quarter Finals, with plenty of penalty drama along the way!

Both teams reached the Semi Finals. The Blues narrowly missed out on penalties against MK United Ladies, while the Pinks beat Carterton to reach the final.

🥈 The Pinks fell just short in the Plate Final against a good MK United side who played some lovely football.

So proud of this group. To step into an adult tournament, reach the final, compete with confidence, score some fantastic goals, pick up some great wins and show real character throughout the day is a huge credit to every player.

Abingdon United WFC are delighted to confirm the appointment of Charlie Read as Head Coach of the Women’s First Team.

After a thorough appointment process Charlie joins the club following extensive experience at MK Dons Women’s FC set up.

Abingdon United’s Vice-Chairman, Stefan Caira, said “After a thorough and highly competitive recruitment process, we are very pleased to welcome Charlie to Abingdon United.

“As we continue to drive the women’s programme forward, Charlies leadership, drive and vision will be invaluable in helping us achieve our ambitions this season and beyond.”

Speaking about being appointed Charlie had to say:

I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to become First Team Manager of Abingdon United.

“I would like to thank Stefan, the interview panel and everyone at the club for the faith they have shown in me. It is a privilege to be given the chance to lead the first team at a club with such a strong family feel whilst being ambitious for the future.

I know there is a lot of hard work ahead, and I approach this role with a great deal of respect for the people who have contributed to the club’s history and progress. My focus will be on working closely with the players, staff, volunteers, and supporters to help move the club forward together.

I am looking forward to getting to know everyone involved with Abingdon United and doing my very best to represent the club in the right way.

I am excited to get started and can’t wait to begin working with the group as we prepare for the season ahead”

Last game for the girls.

We came out full strength from the first whistle and completely took control of the game, moving the ball with confidence and purpose. The goals reflected it. Esme, Amy and Izzie all found the net, while Isla struck twice in the first half with clinical finishes. We went into half time 5-0 up after a performance built on strength, togetherness and relentless energy all over the pitch.

Second half, a few changes but nothing dropped. The intensity stayed high and it turned into a real battle, with everyone digging in for each other. Isla capped it all off by completing her hat trick in the 70th minute, a moment that summed up the day

End of an era for all of us but we went out the only way we know how, loud, proud, full of glitter and making plenty of noise 💥

A little break, then tournie season and a tour on the coast to properly end it all 🌊
