⚽ Maybole 4 - 0 Cambusdoon ⚽
Games against Maybole Juniors 2013s are always tough, so we knew this one was likely to be as well.
From the first whistle Maybole looked like they had more desire to win the game. The team were giving them far too much time on the ball, not pressing how we know they can. Maybole took advantage of our slackness by racing into a 4 goal lead inside the first 20 minutes.
It was only then that the boys started to try and impose themselves on the game and managed to keep the score at 4-0 until the half time whistle.
The second half was better from the team, starting to play some neat football and giving Maybole less time on the ball. We created some good chances, and on another day Lukian Marii could have had a hattrick, but unusually for him it just wasn't to be on the day.
It was ultimately too little, too late, and Maybole got a comfortable win in the end.
There are still some positives to take, though. After 20 minutes, we could have absolutely crumbled, but the team dug in and actually played some decent stuff as the game went on. That fight and effort was good to see, and games against strong opponents like Maybole will only help the team develop going forward.
Congratulations Maybole on your win.

⚽Kilwinning Rangers 1-8 Cambusdoon Rovers⚽
A really strong performance in the first AYFL League 1 game of the season saw the team record a very good win against Kilwinning Rangers FC 2013’s.
Right from the first whistle the boys were really up for the match, and they made a blistering start. Right from kick off, Robbie Jamieson cut out a pass on the right wing and drove down the wing. His Cross was cut out by the goalkeeper, but as Kilwinning tried to play out from the back a misplaced pass went straight to Kris Clewlow 20 yards out. His first time shot into the bottom right was out of the keepers reach for the opening goal in just 16 SECONDS!! 1-0 Cambusdoon.
The 2nd goal came just 5 minutes later, and it was a really nice counter attack from the edge of our own 18 yard box. Finlay Hunter got a foot in before the attacker and poked the ball to Kris. He won the ball from 2 Kilwinning players, drove deep into the Kilwinning half and played the ball to Robbie. He slipped it to Lukian Marii who drove into the box but saw his shot saved. The ball rebounded to Rocco Kerr a few yards out and he finished well to make it 2-0.
Rocco made it 3-0 with his 2nd goal on 16 minutes. A freekick from Hugh Swanson from the half way line was floated into the box. Rocco Kerr didn't even have to change his stride as he ran onto it for the most nonchalant little header past the keeper from the edge of the box into the bottom left of the goal.
4 minutes later, it was goal number 4 for the team from another Hugh set piece. This time it was a corner from the left hand side which bounced around in the box before eventually landing at Lukian's feet. He poked the ball home from close range to make it 4-0 in 20 minutes It was a superb start for the team.
And just 2 minutes later, we made it 5. A cross by Robbie from the right went just over Kris' head in the middle and right the way across to the left wing. Finlay battled really well to win the ball, went past his defender and put a dangerous low cross into the 6 yard box. Lukian was there in the right place again for another close range finish for his 2nd goal. 5-0 Cambusdoon.
There was no more scoring in the first half, but the team were on the front foot and enjoying their football.
Half time Kilwinning 0 - 5 Cambusdoon.
The team started the 2nd half almost as quickly as the 1st! On 36 mins, Aaron Neil played a great defence splitting pass in behind the Kilwinning defence. Lukian raced on to the ball clean through and produced a tidy finish into the bottom left corner to complete his hattrick. 6-0.
Lukian had a great chance to add to his goals a few minutes later when he was brought down in the box and awarded a penalty. The goalkeeper guessed right and went early to deny him from the spot and keep the score at 6.
The next 20 minutes or so we're a bit quieter and more disjointed, with both teams making substitutions and neither team really threatening the goal.
On 62 minutes though, the next goal came. And this time roles were reversed from the previous goal. Aaron found Lukian with a looping cross, and he layed the ball back to Aaron who hit an unstoppable shot from inside the box into the top right of the net. 7-0 Cambusdoon.
Our last goal of the day was another assist for Hugh, his 3rd assist of the match. He picked the ball up and drove brilliantly into the box. His attempted shot from a tight angle was saved but bounced right back to him, and he found Lukian right in the middle of goal for a simple finish for his 4th goal on the day to make it 8-0.
Kilwinning, to their absolute credit, never gave up and never sacrificed their principles. Always looking to play football and not resorting to long balls. And their persistence was rewarded with a consolation goal 3 minutes from time. Our defence failed to clear when under pressure, and their player picked up the ball just outside the box and hit a high shot over Haiden that he had no chance of saving. 8-1.
Final Score Kilwinning 1 - 8 Cambusdoon.
The Referee's Player Of The Match was our number 47 Lukian Marii. Lukian looks back to his very best for the season starting, bagging himself an impressive 4 goals on the day. Well done Lukian. Lukian is sponsored by SELLMYCARAYRSHIRE.
Coaches' Player of The Match was our Captain and number 8 Hugh Swanson. He covered ever inch of the pitch, in an all action display, and helped the team with 3 assists. Hugh is sponsored by InkBole’ Tattoos.
A mention as well for our 2 Goalkeepers, some good saves and a clean sheet for Isaac Donald 🧤, and Haiden MacLeod unlucky to not also get one with no chance for the goal. A solid performance from both. Isaac is sponsored by MS Goalkeeping Academy and Haiden is sponsored by Ayrshire Blinds & Shutters Limited
