Celtic Bhoys Academy 3 - 2 Ballynahinch United FC

Celtic Bhoys Academy produced a stunning comeback victory to edge past Ballynahinch United in a thrilling Newcastle and District Amateur Football League encounter, turning around a two-goal deficit to claim all three points.

The Hoops got off to a sluggish start, struggling to find their rhythm early on. Ballynahinch took full advantage of the hosts' slow opening, capitalising on defensive lapses to race into a commanding 2-0 lead.

Faced with a mountain to climb, Celtic Bhoys refused to fold. A perfect blend of youthful energy and veteran experience began to click into gear, allowing the Hoops to wrest control of the midfield.

At the heart of everything positive was Sean Cahill, who put on a masterful performance, pulling the strings all over the park and dictating the tempo of the match.

The fightback began when Stefan found the back of the net, producing a crucial finish to pull a goal back and give the Hoops a lifeline at 2-1.

With momentum firmly on their side, the pressure paid off again shortly after. A dangerous ball delivered into the penalty area by Cahill caused chaos in the Ballynahinch defence, resulting in a deflected own goal that pulled Celtic Bhoys level at 2-2.

Rumours circulating around the ground suggest Cahill is still firmly claiming the goal as his own.

Just a minute later, the turnaround was complete. That man Cahill was involved yet again, whipping a precise corner into the heart of the box. Niks met the cross with perfect timing, powering a bullet header past the goalkeeper to send the Hoops into a 3-2 lead.

As Ballynahinch pushed for a late equaliser, the experienced heads of Stephen Torney and Conor Carvery stood tall. The exoerienced duo marshalled the team excellently, keeping standards high and ensuring defensive discipline to see out the hard-fought victory.

Man of the Match: Sean Cahill

An influential performance from Sean, who orchestrated the comeback with an assist, a heavily debated forced own goal, and total dominance in the centre of the pitch.

☘️ Junior Shield – First Round
Celtic Bhoys FC Downpatrick 6–0 FC Moylena

Celtic Bhoys booked their place in the next round of the Junior Shield with an excellent all-round performance against a very athletic FC Moylena side.

A slow start from the Bhoys had the supporters a little worried, with some promising moves failing to produce a breakthrough. However, the tireless work of our front two paid off late in the half, with Jack Zych and Jay Gibney both finding the net to send Celtic into the break two goals ahead.

As the midfield trio of Jarley Brannigan, Patrick Ferris and Johnny Bell got to grips with the game, the Bhoys began to show their quality. The second half brought some excellent football and four further goals: another bullet of a free kick from Brannigan, Gibney’s second of the afternoon, a superb 40-yard screamer from Bell and another from Brannigan to complete the scoring.

At the other end, Mikey Rice, Blaine Connolly and Jordy Curran delivered an outstanding defensive display. The back three provided a solid foundation throughout, with a clean sheet to show for their efforts.

🏆 Man of the Match – Jarley Brannigan

Jarley edged the supporters’ vote 3–2 ahead of Patrick Ferris, with both deserving recognition for excellent performances. Jarley received a box of beer, kindly sponsored by Gibney’s Wine Barrel.

A brilliant team effort and plenty to be pleased with as the Bhoys move into the next round. ☘️
