πŸ† WARDINGTON CUP FINAL 2025
πŸ“ Byfield CC
πŸ†š Banbury Lions CC vs Wroxton CC
🦁 Banbury Lions win by 7 wickets

BACK-TO-BACK CHAMPIONS
Banbury Lions retained the Wardington Cup with a calm and clinical performance, beating Wroxton CC by 7 wickets in a competitive and respectful final.

🟒 First Innings – Wroxton: 106 all out (19.2 overs)

Put into the field, the Lions were switched on from ball one.

Despite a resilient 53 from opener Adnan Ahmed, wickets fell consistently around him as the Lions bowlers kept the pressure on.

Kamran Ramzan starred with the ball once again, returning 4-16. He removed three key middle-order players β€” including a rapid yorker and two caught in the ring β€” breaking the back of Wroxton’s innings.

Anas Ahmed continued his excellent form, picking up 2-13, including the crucial wicket of Adnan Ahmed, bowled attempting to accelerate.

Adeel Malik was superb early on and at the death β€” bowling two batters clean and finishing with 2-24. He’s fast becoming a reliable big-game performer.

Ansar Bhatti (1-21) and Taimoor Durrani (1-25) each added a wicket to round off a well-balanced team effort.

In the field, Banbury were electric. Saim Hussain took a sharp catch at extra cover, while Anas Ahmed pulled off a full-stretch one-handed stunner at mid-on β€” a moment of brilliance that lifted the entire team.

Due to a slow over-rate penalty, Banbury were set a revised target of 118 to win.

πŸ”΄ Second Innings – Banbury Lions: 119/3 (17.2 overs)

The run chase was built on a composed 89-run opening partnership between Saim Hussain and Deepsayan Das.
β€’ Saim was calm and assured, scoring 40 off 46 balls, guiding the innings with maturity and control.
β€’ Deep, stepping in to the opening spot for the missing Danyal, delivered with 34 off 36 β€” rotating the strike and timing the ball beautifully in a high-pressure match.

After both fell in quick succession, Ansar Bhatti (7)* and Asad Hussain (8)* completed the chase with 16 balls to spare.

πŸ… Player of the Match:

Saim Hussain – Key innings at the top and a sharp catch in the field.
(Kamran Ramzan was unlucky to miss out after a standout 4-wicket spell.)

πŸ† #4 Leadership at the helm
Under the steady guidance of Captain Ihsan Husayn, Banbury Lions have now claimed their fourth trophy in the last 12 months. With the team still firmly in the race for the league title, the season is far from over.
