Great results at the Reading K4. Although we just missed the podium, we managed an impressive time of 39:46. Very good, considering a few mishaps along the way.

It was a sad day for B&D Canoe Club members this week as they attended the Funeral of our clubs' old friend James Smythe. Although he was never a member of Barking, James did a lot to help our paddlers over the years. James became a member of Leaside Canoe Club around 1991, at this time several of Barking's great juniors were also paddling at Leaside and James was one of the prime coaches to take them under his wing and encourage them to achieve great results at national and international level. He was always first to offer to paddle K2 with a slower Junior paddler which always bought them on to a high standard very quickly. He approached his battle against cancer as he did his paddling, and did manage to beat it two years ago. Following this initial battle he came back to training and went on to win the age group K2 National Marathon Championships in 2021 with an old Barking Paddler, Stuart Dunn. Unfortunately the cancer returned and we had to say goodbye to him on Tuesday. It was evident by the 200 plus persons present that James will be sorely missed.

Well done to the legends Bill and Tim on another successful campaign of Devizes to Westminster. With an impressive time of 19:02:41. The boys were running sliky smooth.

Boasting a support crew of 8, some of whom made a surprise appearance, the boys were well looked after this year, plenty of Jaffa cakes and jelly babies!

Bring on DW 2023!!

Great results for the club!

Well done to Almir and Mark for winning the Veterans K2 series and for Scott in the senior K1.

Also, a great effort for Juan on his first Waterside race. An impressive time of 5hrs 33mins, coming in second place.
