The session was focused on quick reactions, good decision making and moving the ball forward quickly and effectively.

After a hard fought draw this week, the player of the match awards went to Jacob F and James H.
Jacob was awarded managers player of the match, for an all action display in centre midfield which was arguably his best performance in a Redfearns shirt since making the mid season switch to play up a league.
James was awarded the parents of the match award, for another assured and composed performance, firstly in defence then further forward in centre midfield.
Both boys deservedly got a special mention from the watching Sheffield United scout. Well done boys 👏

Redfearn's Blues travelled to Rotherham to play unbeaten Wickersley Blues in their latest league fixture, and were handed their biggest defeat of the season in a game they will want to forget.
Despite starting well, the Redfearn's boys soon found themselves behind to a breakaway goal from the hosts. Redfearn's pushed on but were denied by the post with the ball bouncing to safety. The hosts then extended their lead with a deflected goal, and it was clear it wasn't going to be Redfearn's day in terms of anything going their way.
The boys kept going throughout but were second best in most areas today. Redfearn's had no luck or anything go their way on the day, but in football you have to make your own luck and today we didn't.
Wickersely kept the pressure on and ran in more goals to be worthy winners, the referee finally bringing proceedings to an end with Redfearn's on the ropes.
Not a great day at the office for the boys, but a day that made them realise that every match in the A league is going to be a battle and that their performances must not drop to anything other than their best. Today was a good learning experience for the boys and one that will hopefully focus them to elevate their performance both as individuals and as a team.
Managers player of the match went to James H, who battled away in midfield and defence, trying to get his team mates a foothold in the game. Well done Jimmy 👏🏼
Next up we entertain Spire Rangers at S71 2JS.
Parents player of the match was given to Archie L, who was busy and inventive on both wings as he tried to make things happen for his team. Well done Longers 👏🏼

With no game this past weekend, we celebrate last weeks players of the match in what was an absolute belter of a football game
Parents player award went to James C, for a superb defensive display, excellent use of the ball and staying calm under pressure from the constant long ball.
Managers player went to H, who was like a brick wall at the back, making some crunching tackles and generally having the opponents big mobile striker under control most of the match.
Anyone of the boys could have won an award after last weekends display, everybody plying their part.

Redfearn's Blues Vs Treeton Terriers - Match Report, 01.03.26.
Redfearn's latest fixture saw the visit of Treeton Terriers to S71 2JS, in an eagerly anticipated match up of two recently promoted teams.
Redfearn's lined up with Reed between the posts, a defence of Hellewell (c), Cowgill and France, midfield of Longley, Forgione and Cherry, with Briscoe providing the cutting edge up top. Fraser and Cowgill completed the match day squad, with Boldy and Moore still unavailable for selection.
As is often the case, Redfearn's gave their opponents a goal start, a hopeful long ball was not dealt with, which allowed the Treeton striker to get behind the defence and slot home from close range.
Redfearn's slowly started to wake up and find their feet, keeping the ball for long periods and probing the visitors defence with some lovely forward balls they struggled to cope with. The home support didn't have long to wait before the boys were back on level terms, Longley finding Briscoe who poked the ball home off the post.
Despite further Redfearn's pressure they failed to extend their lead in the first period, half time reached with the scores tied. The message from the coaching staff was to not get involved in the blatant over physical tactics being used by the visitors and to let their superior football do the talking.
The boys listened and took the instructions on board, standing upto the physical players of Treeton but at the same time playing some fantastic one and two touch football that had the crowd on their feet, and the supporters there to watch other games tuning in to watch. This included the linesman running the line on the adjacent pitch, who missed an off side while not concentrating on his flag duties while watching the Blues 😂
The Redfearn's boys continued knocking at the door which Briscoe eventually broke down, an assist from captain Hellewell playing Briscoe in to put the hosts deservedly in front.
Treeton then threw caution to the wind and reverted to 1 at the back, pushing their players forward and utilising the long ball method. A rare corner for Treeton was played into the box, bobbled through the area and again wasn't dealt with effectively, and after what seemed like an age was prodded home by a Treeton player to level the scores against the run of play.
With time running out the game looked to be heading towards a draw which would have been a travesty for the Redfearn's boys, who had been in control for long periods of the match.
A little reshuffle saw Longley deployed up top to replace Briscoe, who must have run close to a marathon on a heavy muddy pitch for the cause. Last weeks match winner Cherry picked the ball up on the left and played a through ball behind the last defender, which Longley ran onto, out muscled and out paced the chasing defender before blasting the ball home beyond the helpless keeper to put Redfearn's in front with only a minute to go.
Redfearn's were deservedly back in front but weren't done yet. The move of the match saw Cherry and Briscoe combine down the left with some delightful one touch passing, carving the visiting defence open, allowing Briscoe to finish at the near post to complete a hard earned hattrick and to make the score line more reflective of the performance.
Reed in goal was again in fine form, keeping the visitors out and looking comfortable between the sticks.
The defensive trio of France, Cowgill and at times Hellewell were absolutely immense at the back, making countless interceptions and tackles as Treeton continuously launched long hopeful balls forward.
The Redfearn's midfield of Cherry, Longley, Forgione, Fraser and Hellewell were again strong in the tackle, creative and a joy to watch going forward, while at the same time working hard to assist with the defensive duties.
Brizzy again ran his blood to water up front, putting in the hard yards and getting the results for his hard work with his hattrick.
Parents player of the match was awarded to Cowgill, who looked assured and comfortable at the back, distributing the visitors at every opportunity and never wasting a forward pass.
Managers player of the match went to France, who put on a masterclass of defending for his team. When France emptied his pockets after the game, the big, mobile and aggressive Treeton striker was still in there. 😂
Too many moments of absolute quality to be able to choose the best of the day on the football field, but we are pleased to report that Mrs Longley's terrible back problems of late appear to be cured, if her jumping up and down and cheering when the last two goals went in is anything to judge by. 🙈
Another great day at the office for the Blues 💙

Small group session this week due to mounting injuries and players being unavailable.
The small group allowed us to work on good distribution from defence to the wide midfielders and switching / crossing the ball quickly into dangerous areas.
Well done boys, great session 🔥💪💙

Trainer of the week this week was awarded to James C, who brought the energy and focus to our session and looked sharp. Well done James 💙💪⚽️
25/02/2026
Managers player of the week this week was awarded to Archie L, who produced a tenacious midfield performance. Archie put his body on the line time and again, breaking up the hosts play, getting a strong foot in and looking to put his team on the front foot at every opportunity. Well done Archie, your best performance of the season by far 💙⚽️💪 👏

Parents player of the match this week was awarded to Teddy, who was again outstanding between the sticks against a strong Ecclesall Rangers team. Teddys reaction saves and quick distribution gave the outfield lads the platform to go on and win the game. Well done Tedward 👏💙🧤⚽️

Redfearns Blues travelled to Hillsborough College to take on another established A division team in Ecclesall Rangers, and produced a performance full of determination, skill and endeavor.
The starting line up was Reed in goal, Cowgill and Hellewell (c) in defence, a midfield of Cherry, Forgione and Longley, with Briscoe leading the line and France and Fraser completing the match day squad. Moore and Boldy remain unavailable for selection, but hopefully we will see them before the end of the season wearing the royal blue strip with pride again.
The signs in the warm up looked ominous, as the hosts pinged shot after shot into the net as they practiced shooting, the task at hand looked like it was going to be difficult and a long morning for the Blues.
Unusually for Redfearns the boys started quickly and immediately started creating chances, Briscoe coming close in the opening minutes, beating the keeper but denied by the post, which has become a reoccurring theme the last couple of weeks.
It was Briscoe that opened the scoring, a great pass from Hellewell splitting the defence and Brizzy latching onto the ball and poking home to give the Redfearns boys an early lead.
Ecclesall started to go through the gears and midway through the half were on level terms, a well worked move leveling the scores.
Half time was reached with the scores level. The message from the coaching staff was keep the tempo high and try and get the ball behind the home defence who were playing a high line, to utilize the pace of the Redfearns forward players.
The second half was an absolute blinder, with both team playing their part in a what was a fantastic advert for U9 football.
Both teams went for it in the second period, with end to end football and chances created at both ends.
It was the hosts next on the score sheet with a goal against the run of play, a good finish making th score 2-1. Further pressure from Ecclesall pushed Redfearns back, but the defenders Hellewell, Cowgill and France put their bodies on the line time and time again, getting tackles and blocks in to frustrate the hosts. Reed in goal was again outstanding, pulling off some outstanding saves and great distribution throughout the game.
The Redfearns midfield eventually started to gain the upper hand with their work rate, trickery and pace, creating chances as they tried to get on level terms. Forgione in central midfield tried to get the Blues on the front foot at every opportunity driving forward, assisted from the flanks by the graft and will to win of Longley, Cherry and Fraser.
Redfearns continued to knock at the Ecclesall door and eventually it had to give way, Hellewell again the provider, sliding in Briscoe who smashed the ball home from a tight angle across the helpless goalkeeer to deservedly level proceedings at 2-2.
Not content with a draw, Redfearns continued to push on looking for the winner.
A tactical change saw Cherry take on the lone striker role, and with time running out it was always going to take something special to win this humdinger of a match.
A ball from defence from Cowgill saw Cherry one on one with the last defender, Cherry checked back, before skilling the defender and then leaving him for dead as he approached the goal and unleashed a shot that beat the keeper and nestled in the top corner, sending the visiting supporters wild with a last minute winner of pure quality.
The Blues still had time to break away again, Cherry again the tormentor, beating the defence again but this time denied by the woodwork 🙈
Final score 3-2 to the young Redfearns boys.
Parents player of the match was awarded to Reed, for some excellent saves and distribution, denying the hosts and setting off many Redfearns attacks.
Mangers player of the match was awarded to Longley, who never stopped running, made countless tackles and produced his best performance of the season by far when his team needed it the most.
Special mention to Briscoe, who ran his blood to water, scored a superb brace and was a constant nuisance to the Ecclesall defence.
Moment of the match has to be the last minute winner from Cherry, which was worthy of winning any game at any level.

Next the boys entertain Treeton, which based on previous meetings should be an entertaining morning 👀

Redfearns Blues hosted Bramley Sunnyside in a fixture the weather tried to beat, but testament to the Redfearns ground staffs hard work, the game went ahead on a bitterly cold Sunday morning.
The matchday squad was Reed, Cowgill, France, Hellewell (c), Cherry, Forgione, Longley, Fraser and Briscoe, with Boldy and Moore again unavailable for selection.
Despite stepping up a league and level recently, the boys were a good match for the established A league visitors, both teams looking positive and competitive early on.
It was Bramley who opened the scoring with a goal out of no where, one that Redfearns will want to forget.
Redfearns kept pushing forward and came close on numerous occasions, clipping the post and being kept out by an inspired visiting keeper. The Blues were soon back on level terms though, a quick break down the left saw Forgione play Briscoe in, and with Brizzy bearing down on goal there was only ever going to be one result, the ball driven home to level the scores at 1-1.
As the referee blew for half time, the boys were told to keep doing what they were doing but also to move the ball quicker between the thirds.
The half time message was taken on board and Redfearns started in the ascendency, creating chances but not quite finding the correct ball in the final third.
Bramley broke forward but the Blue’s defence seemingly had things under control, but a looping deflection off a defender saw the ball quickly change direction and over goalkeeper Reed, falling kindly at the feet of the visitors striker who poked the ball home from virtually on the line to make the score 2-1.
Redfearns had their chances to equalize on a few occasions, but the Bramley
Keeper pulled off numerous worldies to keep his team in front. The first a full length dive to push the ball onto the post and then rushing off his line to dive at the feet of a Redfearns player when clean though and 1 on 1.
Redfearns thought they’d leveled things with a Briscoe effort which hit the bar and post before bouncing back out, the spectators closest adamant it had crossed the line but the referee waved play on ! If VAR was in operation we think it would have been given 🙈😂
As time ran out Redfearns broke forward again and a foul was given on the edge of the area for a desperate challenge which stopped a clear shot on goal. The resulting free kick was put agonizingly just wide and was the final action of the game.
Final score Redfearns 1 Bramley Sunnyside 2.
On another day with a bit more luck the Blues would have been easy winners, but the footballing gods had decided it wasn’t to be today and everything fell to the visitors. Fine margins, but no complaints.
Parents player of the match was awarded to Cherry, for his direct forward play and working hard up and down the wing.
Managers player of the match went to Briscoe, who scored the only goal of the day for Redfearns, worked tiredly across the front line and was generally a pain in the bum for the visiting defenders.
Next up we travel to Ecclesall Rangers, another high level side that will be a very tough test for the boys.

In a fiercely competitive opening A league fixture, any of the Redfearns squad could have taken the player of the match awards for the Blues.
The parents player of the match went to Harry, who caught the eye with some strong defending, solid tackles and good distribution.
Managers players of the match went to Teddy, who made some outstanding saves on and off his line, being vocal and commanding his area.
Well done boys 👏 💙💪⚽️
