Today the lads went out and finished the season in style. After their semi final last week, they come into the final this week with only the trophy on their minds.

The lads followed on from the semi final last week in the same manor, focussing on quality of passes, creating space, working hard off the ball and most importantly enjoying their goal scoring. We aren’t going to write loads about it as ultimately the last two week they have come out and done a job for each other.

A fantastic way to round of their first campaign in football as a team. 2 losses since Christmas in total and some silverware for good measure.

16 months ago we picked these lads up from scratch. Some having never really kicked a ball. To see the journey they have been on is incredible. The development is immense, the hard work they all put in is to be admired. Every single person associated with this group of lads are proud to be involved and get to witness this growth week in week out.

Not only have they grown as a team, but also grown as friends making memories for life, bringing us coaches and parents closer together than ever and really giving us a future to look forward to.

CROSSPOOL AT HOME

Today the lads finished off their first campaign in style. Everything from the last 14 months come together and the lads really put all the pieces of the puzzle together. Passing, recovering, tackling, keeping shape, using the 5Ps to defend, playing through the lines and getting plenty of shots off. They had it all today.

The lads were at it from the get go and looked hungry. They picked the ball up and started moving it fluently across the surface. It wasn’t long before they unlocked Crosspool’s defence with a great touch and quick fire shot from Henry. After this the rest of the half was one way traffic, with plenty of pressure applied and plenty of opportunities. Crosspool defended very well and kept us out.

The second half pretty much of the same to start and then the lads found another gear and really laid their style on thick. Seth popped up with two great goals that both came from moves starting from the keeper and ending with a goal. What followed was a fantastically worked free kick routine from Louie and Henry. Louie laid the ball off with a back heel pass and Henry lashed it into the net with a cheeky megs on the keeper. An unbelievable final goal was scored by Louie who took a fine touch away from the defended and smashed the ball in with his left foot wand. A goal that was all in the creation, Riley plucked the ball out of the sky and played a beautifully weighted set back for Louie to run onto. A superb goal at this age.

Overall the lads need to be proud of themselves this year, they have all listened, trained hard and developed so much it’s unbelievable and ultimately that is why we turn up in the wind and rain, week in week out to ensure the kids in our care get the best education and enjoyment possible.

⚽️ The Falcons fly to KILLAMARSH ⚽️

Today the lads faced their biggest challenge and opponents since the league restarted in January. We travelled away to an unbeaten Killamarsh.

A 2pm kick off meant everyone sat on nerves all morning but it soon come around and we were there warming up as the weather was horrendous. The lads come with the right attitude and energy and I felt it straight away.

We kicked off and within the first 30 seconds of the game it was 1-1 and that set the tone for this contest. A great contest from the off all the way through to the final whistle. Killamarsh were strong, had great individual quality and moved the ball well. They went in strongly at half time and looked to have the edge.

We gathered the lads and spoke about remaining calm on the ball, marking space instead of players and closing the opposition out through structure and unity. We also added we needed to be a touch more committed and aggressive when wanting that ball back.

The lads listened and come out guns blazing. They shifted the ball well, played off 1-2 touches, showed bravery when travelling with the ball and kept their shape. They never stopped working for each other, recovering in straight lines, chasing every lost cause and ratting together in pairs. It paid off as they smashed in 4 second half goals and took the fan with the scruff of the neck.

Absolutely proud as punch of the lads today and really made a good account of themselves. Amazing work and the lads come off beaming with pride and full of confidence.

worked his socks off, he stayed high for pressure, he was brave dribbling and beating his man, his finish was sublime, he worked hard up and down that pitch and never stopped running for his mates today.

The best complete performance from him I’ve seen. He never ever gave anything up, got his shots off early, played first time balls, played off two touches, got after their players and was a nightmare for them all game today. Rewarded with 4 brilliant goals.

⚽️ LOCAL DERBY ⚽️

On Sunday, the lads hosted Elsecar Main Navy. The lads and their coaches were amazing. The best set we have come across so far. Parents, coaches and players were fantastic.

It was a great bounce back for the lads on the back of two performances to forget, they were back to their best and really looked hungry to play.

It was a pleasure to watch the lads, playing out from the back comfortably, mixing their range of passing up, being brave on the ball and adding something we don’t normally see and that was their aggression and hunger to want that ball and to keep it.

The Falcons dropped behind through trying to play the right way and that’s something we do not mind at all. Instantly they got their heads together and learnt from the mistake that cost them. They shored up and ensured they went straight back on the attach positively playing forward. From this the lads found the net on 3 occasions. From the kick off Elsecar scored instantly from one of the best goals I’ve seen at this age. Their young lad shot from inside his own half and it went straight in them top bins, absolute worldie which was complemented from a clap and some weird noises from the side line in awe of what we all witnessed.

The second half the lads pushed on the rewards just kept coming as the lads knocked another 4 in. We then conceded late on from trying to play the ball home and then play out wide, unfortunately a slight mix up cost us. We don’t mind this though one bit and actually gave us even more information to go into training with to support the lads development.

A massive game this weekend as we travel to KILLAMARSH who seem to be the team to beat in this division.

Coaches player -

Seth - This lads keep rocking up and giving it his all. The development from 7 months ago to now is amazing and he’s come such a long way. He grabbed his first league goal on Sunday and never stopped running his socks off well done.

Parents player -

Ralph - he covered every blade of grass, protected the ball, got his body in and had the best passing game we have seen from him finished off with a lovely first time finish. The biggest thing here is how smart Ralph was, when one of the lads playing in defence dribbled into the middle, Ralph fell back to cover the space and ensure his positioning was right for if he needed to get a tackle in. At this age to see that is amazing and some intelligent football.

⚽️ Hudson Flying to Sheffield United ⚽️

All the lads, coaches and parents want to wish Hudson Good luck for the next few weeks as he embarks on a little adventure showcasing his speed and tenacity to want that ball with Sheffield United.

Hudson was picked out in yesterday’s game and has been invited to a number of session over the next few weeks to develop and learn in the Sheffield United Set up.

We picked Hudson up from never playing in a team or training only 8 months ago, his development journey has been great and we are so proud to see our lads get the recognition for hard work and it’s well deserved. We can’t wait to follow you and get behind you. Well in mate

🌷 MOTHERS DAY WEEKEND 🌷

This weekend was a special one for all the lads, as we all got to take our mothers out as a team and have fun watching The Sheffield Steelers. The lads absolutely loved bonding together as a team and loved every minute of the experience.

The lads had a few words in regards to the big event,

We love our mums, we love that they come out in all weathers to cheer us on, that they make sure our kits are prepped, their voices are definitely heard and no matter the result or performance they are always their to cuddle us and make everything better.

So happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers at Hoyland Common Falcons. We love you all and appreciate everything you do for us. ❤️❤️❤️

Now onto the football.

A couple of difficult weeks for the lads who seem to be struggling a touch lately. They had to show character last weekend against a resilient TREETON TERRIERS after going behind 3 times, they managed to rally together and pinch a draw. The free flowing football, where everything clicks just seems to have vanished in recent weeks.

This weekend we travelled 50 minutes to Abbey Lane who were fantastic hosts. Another tough weekend and one the lads need to forget quickly, put behind them and move on. Back to training this week and a few weeks away from friendlies. Working on passing, receiving and pitch demographic is the current focus. So let’s hope we can hit that fine from and start seeing that development come back and shine through.

Max - as always a fantastic display of goalkeeping. Nice and loud coming for the ball, talking to his team mates, great shot stopping ability and most of all he kept going with positivity. Well done max.
