Our martial arts school continues to grow steadily, the students are happy and progressing well, the range of classes give everyone more chances to find the day that suits them, and our new prices have already started to give people the encouragement and freedom to train more often than before. Oh, and the lighting has been fixed along with windows, and the front door is next. Maybe some decorating next?...
Steady progress is still progress. Success isn't full mats every session. Steve Sensei is not the main character in all of this. Our students are. They are the heart of our school, and the heart beats strong again!
Former students, those on a break, those trying to work themselves up to rejoining us...
You'll love how things have changed, from the name, to the logo, to the way we do things these days. Softer and better technique, better understanding, less complicated, much more effective as a result. The door is always open.

Now that the kids will feel the strain of being banned from social media perhaps it's time for a change! It's a good time to get them channeling that energy and frustration into something that will give them the endorphins and dopamine kick they crave, without realising they can get it in a healthier way!
And honestly, they deserve better than being harvested for data and being kept addicted to a false representation of life, and terrible role models at times...
Martial arts has been around for centuries, Jujitsu, Karate, Judo, Aikido, and more. Used as a tool for combat they eventually focused on different aspects such as sport, self defence and even a way of life. Traditional martial arts in particular teach you a lot of important things, and helps you develop in a positive way, physically and mentally. It's true!
Steve Sensei (in black) was and still is a video gamer, spending lots of time on a screen then and now, but still channelling energy into something physical for over 28 years the was surprisingly enjoyable! Don't let the smile fool you, underneath the surface there's a lot that's not quite right, and the dopamine and endorphins still take work to achieve. But in this moment all the great stuff shines through, and all the channeled anger, anxiety, stress and difficult feelings melts away. No screens, no false expectations or representations...
If you want this yourself or your kids we're happy to try and give you the stuff that makes us happy!

Monday is our fundamentals night, getting the blocks, strikes and movement right for the best effect.
The start of the week is the hardest, so make it easier. A block is not just a block, nor is a punch just a punch. There is more to it, and tonight we're looking into it!

Last night our Blue and Orange Belt were both working on their Kime No Kata. Ude Hishigi Waki Gatame and Ude Hishigi Hara Gatame were the focus and done well throughout the session.
The rest of the students spent time with Simon Sensei working on Irimi Nage and movement and control.
Good to see the Thursdays picking up again 🇯🇵🥋

A huge congratulations to our 3 new Orange Belts who successfully passed their gradings last night. 3 new 6th Kyu students walking their paths with pride 🇯🇵🥋
A big mention goes to Renee for attending the charity day on Sunday for several hours, picking up an injury but then coming back for more on Monday and Tuesday! They say pain is all in the mind but it definitely looked like it was in her toe!
Adam and Wayne also gave a fantastic demonstration of technique and techniques (yes, they are different things) and also an excellent demonstration of Kata Heian Nidan 🤛👊🤜
Steve Sensei and Renshi are very proud and humbled over such great students in our school.
Oh, and a very big shout out to Lee for being Uke for Sensei on Sunday... Everyone saw it wasn't exactly easy or relaxing for him but he did a fab job 👊🥋🇯🇵

A few more from Sunday! Still aching but what a day!

Yesterday was a brilliant day. Steve Sensei completed 10 sessions across different arts and styles along with Senseis, Renshis and instructors from other arts. 2 of the 12 sessions were a planned break for non physical events.
Our students also took part in a good number of sessions whilst supporting each other and students from other arts. They also cross trained and demonstrated great behaviour and respect towards other arts and instructors (of course!). We are very proud to see them demonstrating the values of our school.
We've yet to hear how much was raised for the Children's Hospice South West but we are very hopeful we have achieved or surpassed our target of £6000.
A huge thank you to the instructors that took part and stepped in for each other when needed, and for demonstrating and embodying Budo in martial arts.
Pictures and more information about the day will follow soon!
And last but not least Richard Pincombe Sensei for the drive, ideas and effort needed to run this event and for inviting Steve Sensei to co run and organise it for the 3rd year running 🇯🇵🥋💚

We've got a fantastic update to share! (We'll use a better poster in future though, AI doesn't always get it right)
Along with other club improvements we've locked in a new pricing structure. It's fair, accessible, affordable and above all ensures people get the most for their money and time on the mats 🇯🇵🥋
We've focused on better membership prices for our committed students as they are the ones who carry the club forwards, along with their families. PAYG and is still there for anyone who likes flexibility or can't attend frequently, and it's only £3.50 more than it was over 20 years ago with us!
No contracts or difficult conversations! Monthly payment can be stopped at any time for when life and circumstances change. We've never used contracts and never will. You're in control!
Standard membership gives you 1 lesson per week per month.
All access gives you unlimited access to all classes
Here's what our members have helped us to build and offer through their continued support:
Up to 4 sessions per week, each one focused on different aspects but ultimately driving you towards the same goal. Classes range from 1 hour (juniors only), 1 hour pre lesson Kata practice, to 90 minutes (weekday sessions) to 2 hours (Super Sunday).
