South Belfast Youth Football Invitational League

Limerick in June has become a special time for our league.

Our trips to the Gaynor Cup and Kennedy Cup have provided invaluable learning experiences and created fantastic memories for players over the years. Many players from our boys and girls representative squads have gone on to achieve great things, including progressing to first-team football in the NIFL Premiership, earning scholarships in England, and receiving international caps for Northern Ireland.

We’ve also enjoyed some success along the way:

🏆 2024 – Kennedy Cup Winners (2010 age group)
🏆 2025 – Gaynor Shield Winners (2011 age group)
🏆 2026 – Kennedy Plate Winners (2012 age group)

Not forgetting our first ever Kennedy Cup win in 2021 with our 2007 age group.

These achievements continue to inspire and motivate the next generation, and they build excitement for our 2013 born boys and girls squads as they look ahead to next season’s competition.

KENNEDY CUP WINNERS

A fantastic end to the Kennedy Cup for our Under 14 Boys, who defeated Kildare 1-0 to lift the Kennedy Cup Plate.

The boys can be immensely proud of their efforts throughout the week, finishing 5th overall out of 31 teams.

While there will be disappointment at not progressing further in the main cup competition, the squad showed tremendous character to respond positively and finish the week strongly by bringing home silverware.

This success caps off an excellent season for the group, adding the Kennedy Cup Plate to their Copa Costa Brava triumph earlier in the year.

After the disappointment of a penalty shootout defeat to DDSL in the Kennedy Cup Quarter Final, our Under 14 Boys responded in superb fashion with a 4-0 victory over Kilkenny in the Plate Semi Final.

The boys now have one final challenge ahead as they take on Kildare in the Kennedy Cup Plate Final.

Our Under 14 Boys Select Side travel to Limerick to compete in the prestigious Kennedy Cup.

This marks the 7th time we have competed in the competition, having previously lifted the trophy with our 2007 and 2010 age groups.

The boys head into the tournament in excellent form, having already enjoyed success this season by winning the Copa Costa Brava in Spain. While there was disappointment in narrowly missing out on the Inter League Cup, the squad will be looking to use that experience as motivation for a strong week against the best young talent from across Ireland.

𝗚𝗔𝗬𝗡𝗢𝗥 𝗖𝗨𝗣 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 🏆⚽

Our Gaynor Cup journey has come to an end, with our Under 14 Girls finishing 12th overall after competing in 7 games over 5 days.

It was a demanding week for every player, both physically and mentally, but one that provided a fantastic learning experience. Throughout the tournament the girls showed tremendous character, while creating friendships and memories that will last long beyond the final whistle.

From topping the group with 3 wins from 3 and making South Belfast YFL history, to battling through the knockout stages, every player represented the league & their clubs with pride on and off the pitch.

A huge thank you to the players, coaches, parents and supporters who made the week possible.

Attention now turns to our Under 14 Boys Select Side, who make the trip to Limerick on Sunday to compete in the Kennedy Cup.

Our Under 14 Girls Select Side have completed the group stages in fantastic fashion, delivering three superb performances to top their group and progress to the cup knockout round.

The girls have also made history, becoming the first girls select side from South Belfast YFL to win all three group games at the Gaynor Cup.
