Doula support in Belfast and beyond for pregnancy, birth and postpartum🤰www.niamhhartdoula.co.uk

My name is Niamh Hart and I am a birth doula in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Through my own pregnancy and birth experiences, I became aware of the value of knowledge and support. Every birthing person deserves to feel the elation of a positive birth and to kickstart their journey into parenthood with confidence and excitement. The announcement of a doula training course right here in Belfast gave me

✨ Lullaby Project Information Sharing Day – Belfast ✨

We are delighted to be hosting a special information exchange and sharing day celebrating the launch of the internationally recognised Lullaby Project in Northern Ireland.

📍 The Parent Rooms , 18–22 Gordon Street, Belfast
📅 Thursday 26th February 2026
⏰ 9:30am–1:30pm (tea/coffee and lunch provided)

The Lullaby Project pairs professional musicians with parents experiencing perinatal mental health challenges such as anxiety, low mood, trauma or isolation. Together, they co-create personal lullabies for their babies — supporting bonding, emotional wellbeing and confidence through the power of music.

We are proud to be launching this programme in collaboration with professionals from Parents 1st UK: Essex Services , who have completed a number of Lullaby Projects with Live Music Now England. They will be travelling to Belfast for this knowledge-sharing day with Northern Irish project partners. This cross-regional learning has been supported by a grant from the Northern Ireland Office’s Connect Fund.

Join us to explore the role of music in perinatal mental health and celebrate the local launch of this inspiring creative health initiative. The morning will include:

🎵 Insights from project partners and advocates
💬 Reflections from specialists and musicians
🎶 Live musical performances
🤝 Networking and discussion

This free event is open to health professionals, parents and family support volunteers. It’s a valuable opportunity to share learning, build connections and explore the impact of creative health in Northern Ireland.

Attendance is free – please RSVP to [email protected] or get in touch if you’d like further information.

Please share this post (and the event flier) with anyone who may be interested — we’d love to see you on 26th February! 💛

*The Birth of Delilah*

I went into labour on the morning of our due date (Sunday). We were all excited that things had started and dandered down to our favourite coffee shop for a celebratory bun and coffee. That day was just lots of period-like cramps until it ramped up that evening. I remember saying to Joel, “okay I think I’m actually in labour.” I didn’t sleep a wink that evening as the cramps were now stronger and more often.
The next day the feelings came closer together and I made Joel take me to buy a curry chip as I thought I wouldn’t be able to stomach food much longer 🤣 we spoke with Niamh that evening as the surges were now coming about 3/4 per hour. We aimed to stay at home as long as possible before going to the hospital.
That Monday night into Tuesday morning was when it got serious! The surges were stronger and I was breathing/swaying through them while gripping Joel’s hands. I was finding that I couldn’t sit or lie down and needed to be on my feet. By 4am we were convinced that we were quite progressed as the contractions were coming thick and fast. I was using the tens machine but felt like I was unable to manage. We phoned Niamh and headed into hospital only to be told I was 1-2cm dilated. This sent me into a bit of a panic and I felt very disheartened.
What followed was 3 stressful and painful hours at home as I let panic get the better of me. Niamh saved the day and came to our house and this is when everything changed. We felt a reset and I had a little cry and screwed my head back on. That morning at home turned everything around and it was such a beautiful experience. Niamh brought mindfulness colouring to do and fed me grapes between each contraction. We played our birth playlist and breathed through every surge. As I was struggling with gravity, Niamh suggested a bath and this is when I realised a water birth was definitely for me! In the bath I was able to focus solely on each surge. A few hours later we were heading into the hospital, only this time to be told I was 8cm dilated! I was ecstatic.

What a privilege to support these two amazing women!

Every journey is so different and this was definitely the case for these two. The support I provide as a doula is just as different each time but so rewarding in every case.

An absolute honour to witness the beautiful births of these baby cousins born almost exactly one year apart 💗

The next meeting of the Belfast Trust Maternity Services Liaison Committee will be on Thursday June 5th at 6.30pm online.

This group brings service users and representatives together with maternity staff to work on improving and shaping maternity services. It's so important to have service user voices around the table as they should always be at the heart of what maternity does.
