Cavehill bowls

The Saturday team are on their travels once more, to play a very strong Belmont side, who are sitting 4th in the league alas a point from top.
After two defeats to the season, Cavehill will be hoping to gather as many points as possible to slowly climb the league table!

Our first home match of the season sees us take on the NIPGL Division 5 Champions of the previous three seasons. It's sure to be a tough contest and we hope we put on a valiant effort, with the hope of picking up, as many points as possible!
We pray the weather forecasters have got it very wrong today and avoid a washout!

It is with deep regret we announce the passing of our Honorary Member and twice serving President Jim Bird.
Jim having joined the club in 1991, received the prestigious honour of holding the chain of office for a second time during the club's Centenary year in 2012.
He was a hard working servant of the club and would be visible on a daily basis doing DIY jobs around the club or helping the greenkeeper well into his late 80's.
Jim will be deeply mourned by all who were lucky to know him!
We tender our deepest sympathy to the family circle at this sad time.

Saturday 25 April Match review

On what turned out to be a glorious day for bowling with the opening of the 2026 NIPGL bowling season, Cavehill suffered a narrow 4 shot defeat away to Willowfield.

Despite missing a handful of key players, the squad put in a spirited performance on an extremely quick green with the match ultimately being decided on the final end.

J Martins rink managed to get their noses well in front by the 6th end picking up two sixes and a 4, winning their game by 13 shots.

G Halls rink battled tirelessly and despite a strong showing from the Cavehill lead and second, Willowfield managed to play the decisive shots when it mattered. They did make a late charge over the final few ends losing by just five shots.

D Gervis rink were the final rink in action. With the other two Cavehill rinks off the green the game was evenly balanced. D Gervis was 8 shots down going into the final end, cancelling out the other two rinks scores, making the final end a winner takes all, and the chance to pick up four points rather than one.
Unfortunately Willowfield picked up 4 shots, with cavehill having to settle for a single point!

It's finally here, the start of the 2026 NIPGL bowling season and what a glorious day to be playing bowls.
We visit East Belfast this afternoon as we take on Willowfield B. Here's hoping we pick up a decent amount of points to get us off and running!

Today, we welcome 58th old Boys from the NIBA to North Circular Road as we officially get our 2026 Bowling Season underway, in our pre season friendly!
In what has been a very damp April, it will be nice to get back onto the green, polish the bowls and flex our arm muscles in advance of the league fixtures starting next weekend.
Looking forward to a competitive game in a North Belfast derby!
New faces always welcome, coaching for new and existing bowlers will re-commence on Monday from 6.30pm. Equipment will be provided, just being flat shoes. Why not come along and see if bowls is for you!
