💥 A special night of learning, challenge and development across the club.
Last week, we were privileged to welcome England Men’s Scrum Coach Tom Harrison to the club for a unique player development evening involving our U16s, U17s, U18s and Senior Men, while also providing an invaluable coach development opportunity for coaches from across the club.
Through a series of practical sessions and open discussions, Tom shared insights from the highest level of the game, challenging players and coaches alike to think differently, refine their understanding and focus on the details that drive performance.
The biggest takeaway? The smallest details often make the biggest difference…
🔧 Players explored how subtle changes in scrum setup and body position can improve stability, power and connection throughout the pack.
🤜🤛 Maul sessions reinforced the importance of positioning, showing how collective success often comes down to individual detail and decision-making.
🎯 Attack structures were put to the test through game-based scenarios, encouraging players to adapt, communicate and find solutions under pressure.
The evening carried extra significance given Tom’s family ties to the club. His father, John Harrison, was a proud Old Dartfordian, Club Captain and 1st XV player, while his uncle, Nick Harrison, remains fondly remembered as a highly respected clubman whose contribution helped shape the spirit and character of the club. It was fitting to see the Harrison legacy celebrated through an evening dedicated to learning and development.
It was also a fitting tribute to Dave Phillips, whose friendship with the Harrison family and passion for coach development helped bring the opportunity to life.
A huge thank you to Tom for giving his time so generously and sharing his expertise with players and coaches alike.
From grassroots to the international game - the clubs spirit came to life that night as expected!
