For those who know me on a deeply personal level, know how hard I am on myself, the struggles I have with myself daily wondering if what I do is good enough, the pressure of not comparing and taking things personal, wondering if I’m doing the right thing, dealing with the anxiety of trying to be successful and be in a position to make a difference to young people in a football sense & in every day life.
There’s not been one point In the last two years that these things dont swirl around in my head.
Today I needed to remind myself of where I started and what I started with compared to now. I started my sessions at bexley sports park coaching 8/10 children across 2 sessions.
Fast forward a year and we are coaching 30/40 children across 2 hours at our Monday night GOALS sessions & started other weekly sessions, which I never dreamt of being a reality. Ever.
This is a reminder to myself that this risk IS & WAS worth every time I second guessed myself, every time I didn’t feel that I was doing enough or that I cared to much for other peoples opinions of me. Or the mistakes and the lessons we learn from as we go through this journey, the self doubt that can be crippling. All of it has been worth it & will continue and to be. It keeps me grounded, it keeps me humble and it keeps me wanting to strive to be a better person, a better role model and a better coach.
I will never ever claim to be the best coach, that would be a silly thing to do. However I give my heart and soul to this every day. I do my homework, I listen to people to learn from them, try and figure out how I can be better and what I can give to these kids that I coach every single session and give them the right tools to be better players and better young people.
To everyone who attends weekly sessions, camps, 1-2-1s etc,
Thankyou for your support, you’ve changed my life. I’m proud to be “Coached By JP” & I’m even prouder that I get to coach with my own stamp on it. Not someone else’s & I will forever be grateful for that.
As I’ve said before, we’re only just getting started.
Deepest regards,
Coach Jake 🫡💫
