Kids already spend 7+ hours a day at school.
After school should be for sports, chores, family time, friends, and actually being a kid, not another two-plus hours of homework. The school day is already long enough.
Piling on heavy workloads at home turns childhood into an extension of the workday and leaves very little room for the unstructured time that actually helps kids develop.
There’s a difference between reinforcing learning and just overloading them because “that’s how it’s always been.”
