Another week gone and a few of the lads has been out and about on the bank.

Tony Avery has been fishing the Aston Magna cup series and ended the final match in third place. With the results of the other matches this put him in third place overall.

Tom Boulton and James Wilson were out on the Birmingham-Worcester canal for the charity match in memorial for Steve Ward, whom sadly past away last year. Tom landed some of the bigger bream in the canal for 7-1-8 and third place, whilst James had a busy day for 5-14-0 and fourth place.

Gloucester spring league this coming weekend. Can Smithys Black take top spot from Drennan Oxford? 🀞🀞🀞

It's that funny time of year in team fishing, the lull in matches when the river season ends, but one place that is hectic at the moment is the Gloucester Canal. In full flow is the Gloucester spring league. This year we have entered 3 teams of Black, Green and White, and like most it's been a bit of a mixed bag, with one exception of Sensas Smithys Team Black!!

1st round gave team Black a steady draw, and with Simon Pickering on one of the favoured pegs, 456 pegthorne Bay Saul, he managed to put 53lb 12oz of bream in the net for 2nd in the match and a great team share out!

2nd round this weekend with bream moving around anything could happen. James Poolton won his 10 peg section from castle 378, with skimmers and an eel. But 2 zone wins for team Black again made sure the team won overall on the day. Billy Neath taking his zone out with 16lb 3oz from Simms S11, with 7 bream, and Bradley Proctor taking his zone out with 19lb 2oz of bream and eels from Pilot 241. This leaves Team Black second overall so far in the league, and bragging rights over the other two teams!

All roads lead to Portugal for Smithys pair!

Huge congratulations to the Sensas Smithys duo of Callum Jennings and Zak Brotherton, whom both will be fishing the river Sorraira in Portugal come 5th and 6th August.

Zak won his place having qualified through the excellent Guru pathway, and his trials for the under 15s squad took place at Makins fisheries, whilst Callums trails for the under 20s squad took place at Barston.

As a team we are proud of these youngsters, and 100000000% they are honoured to be wearing the 3 lions come August.

A couple of weeks to catch up on with the members of Smithy's MG on venues around the Midlands.....
Starting from last weekend and the "star of the week" for his double header, is River captain Iain "Jenno" Jennings.
Saturday he put 31lb of "silvers" in the net for a section win on the teams of three Meadowlands league. He went one better on Sunday at Broadacres with 31lb 14oz of skimmers, roach and bream for the match win! πŸ‘

Ian David Winter made no mistakes on a known chub peg when he fished the Bridgnorth AS members match. Ian fished wag and mag for around 32 chub to weigh 44lb and take the match win πŸ‘

The ever present Tony Avery fished the Wye feeder champs, drawn at Bartonsham he caught 5 barbel for 31lb and a section win, which made the walk more enjoyable!

This weekend Neil Chapman was back at Bells Mill for the silvers league catching 28lb of skimmers for 2nd in the match too keep him in contention for the league win.

Tony Avery fished Barford, and put a mixed bag of wag and stick fish together for 17lb 10oz and another pick up in a section win.

James Wilson jumped on the Silvers match at the Jam Factory. A hard fished match, his 9 fish went 2lb 8oz for 3rd in the match.

Simon Pickering was also out today on the last round of the Evesham pairs, he caught roach, perch and a lone chub for 9lb 1oz and 3rd in the match.

A big shout out to the three members of the team fishing the meadowlands teams of three (Iain Jennings, Wayne Sharpe and Duncan Gailis-Field) currently sitting in fifth place with one more round to go, and it is still all there for the taking! Not bad considering most had never seen the place before!!

Another couple of weeks of cold weather hasn't deterred a fare few of the Smithys squad from hitting the banks!

A couple of anglers in form are in the shape of Tony Avery and Neil Chapman. Tony following up his win at Barford the previous week, once again used wag and stick tactics to put 20lb 4oz of dace and small chub on the scales for second in the match.

This weekend Neil has had a double header fishing silvers matches. Saturday turning a previous non framing peg, into a 21lb 4oz peg which put him second overall, then Sunday yet another second, this time at the Jam Factory but finding 44lb 12oz of skimmers and roach on pole and feeder πŸ‘

Also this week was the Avon Team Champs. Thirteen teams of eight on the Avon from Stratford to Evesham. We put a couple of teams into this match, and the Avon fished really well given the previous nights frost. It was the Smithys Black team that took the bragging rights finishing joint third on the day, but knocked back to forth on weight. The Green team finishing in seventh place. Section wins from Callum Jennings (Barford above), Duncan Gailis-Field (Luddington) and that man on fire Tony Avery (Lido). Well done to Colmic Dynamite Trentmen for the win πŸ‘and also a special thank you to Jason Cooke and Sean Reidy for organising the match.

The cold spell continues but it hasn't stopped some of the die-hard members of Sensas Smithy's Match Group hitting the banks over the last week!!

Last Sunday was the last round of the Droitwich winter league. It was our very own Stu Blunsom who took the match out with a couple of, in his own words, "Lucky Bream" and a few blades to weigh in 7-5-0. Second on the day was another Smithy's in the figure of Andy Beasley who went close and put 7-1-13 on the scales.
The overall league results Martin J Wilcockson ended up in third place and Stu forth to add to his days winnings. πŸ‘πŸ‘

This weekend the brave (or mad) were once again rewarded!!
River Avon at Barford was the home for Tony Avery. Wag and mag tactics on a day that never went above zero resulted in 4 bites and 4 chub, to weigh 13lb 8oz and the match win! Well in Sava!
Today Wayne Sharpe went breaking the ice at the Jam Factory silvers match. His bank fished hard given the temperatures, but Wayne put 3lb 12oz of roach on the scales to take his section out πŸ‘

With the weather due to change this week, hopefully venues will be clear of ice and the fish open their mouths.

A cold weekend this weekend. Frozen lakes and canals. Good luck if you are out and about, and take care.
