2026 season preview
Preparations are all but complete for the 2026 season. After a solid 2025, we look to continue our progress on and off the pitch.
The ground and square are in excellent shape, with thanks going to Steve, Andy, Reevo and many others for their hard work over the winter. Further improvements have been made to the surrounds and the changing rooms. We continue to fundraise for a new scoreboard, and hope to have some news on that front soon, with thanks to all who have donated and fundraised, especially Sue and Chloe.
On the field, Sal Zahid and Adam Guest continue in their roles as 1st and 3rd team captains. The 1s start their campaign on Saturday looking to maintain last years form and push for promotion again.
Dave McWalter will lead the seconds, with an exciting chance to challenge for success. Our Sunday team have entered the Arden league and again play league cricket under the leadership of Sam Bogle. We’ll also be offering midweek cricket for both club wide and over 40s teams.
Joining us this year we have Mayank Panwar from Hampton, Niaz Tokhi from Aston Manor, Nitin Saul from Walsall and Louis Cole returning from Aldridge. Matt Raybould, Feron Jayawardene and Ibrahim Hassan return to the game after some time away. We wish them all well, some debuts having already been made. There are still one or two potential irons in the fire on this front and we hope our playing strength will be improved this year, despite a couple of departures.
For a second year Lee Brookes will lead our junior cricket which continues to see growing numbers as we look to develop the next generation. Please reach out if you or anyone you know would like to play junior or senior cricket for Unity.
We hope to see all of our players, friends and supporters over the course of the year and optimism is high. Let’s have a great 2026!

As we approach the eve of the new season, here’s a reminder of last season’s top wicket taker, Ash Patel, receiving the award in person.
Congratulations again, Ash! Here’s to another fantastic season.
Our 2nd XI are looking for pre season friendlies on:
- 11 April at home (court lane Erdington)
- 25 April away (1st XI league game on this day so it does have to be away)
Please message if interested!

PLAYER’S MEETING & SOCIAL NIGHT!
Get ready for the 2026 season!
We are hosting a Club Social and Players Meeting at the clubhouse and we want to see as many faces there as possible.
It’s not all business, though. We have food and a unique cross-code sporting challenge lined up for the evening.
• When: 28th March
• Where: The Clubhouse
• Arrival: From 4:30 PM
• Meeting Starts: 5:00 PM (Sharp – shouldn’t last more than 30 mins)
🍕After the meeting, we’ll be putting on some food. £5 per person if you want to eat (this helps us cover costs).
🎳 The Big Event: The Bowls Battle!
At 7:00 PM, a team of Unity cricketers (who think they can bowl) will take on the proper bowls players from Erdington Court.
Are you brave enough to play? Let us know! 🙋♂️
Spectators are encouraged, and heckling is allowed (provided it is aimed exclusively at Aston Unity members)! 😂
🛠️ Pre-Event Groundwork (Potential):
We might need some extra hands earlier in the afternoon to get the ground ready for the season. If so, a final update will follow next week. A great chance to get some early teamwork in!
See you all there on the 28th! 🧤🏏
