We have had a great day with the The International Guild Of Knot Tiers at Rough Close learning all things rope and pioneering in preparation for Spejdernes Lejr this summer

This weekend we have been on a cruise. What most people think of as a cruise is luxury, cabins, sun and sea.

We got a river, rain and good memories...3 days, 31 ish miles, symond yat rapids. Quick snap shot before I sort photos.

Today we've been for a little McPaddle training session before our Chief Scouts' and DofE expeditions on the River Wye in two weeks time.

Our day included testing the new purple canoes and trailer we got from a grant, training in solo paddling, learning new strokes and manoeuvres, how to rescue a sunken boat, and a target of paddling to McDonald's for lunch and back again.

We've been one-pot cooking at Explorers this week. With DofE and Chief Scouts' expeditions looming imminently, the question is "Can we teach teenagers to cook a quick healthy dinner, with protein/carbs/veg, that's not just bland pasta and sauce?"

This weekend we were on camp in London for the Monopoly Run!

Radford Rhinos Explorer Scouts are officially becoming Explorer Sea Scouts!

After countless Chief Scouts' & DofE adventures on the River Wye and River Trent canoeing, kayaking, rafting, SUP’ing, and generally proving rhinos can float, we’ve decided to fully commit and adapt the unit to our new skills and a new way of life.

With new badges, neckers, uniforms, inflatable rubber arm bands and bosuns whistles coming soon for all of our 40+ Explorers, it's only a pretty short 2hr 100M drive on a Monday night (or 52 choruses of Charlie Had A Pigeon on the Minibus) from one of the most landlocked cities in the UK to our nearest patch of open sea! Or a 15 minute walk to the Coventry Canal.

It makes sense that our Explorers have decided to fully embrace their inner marine mammal. Turns out you can teach a Rhino new tricks—they just prefer them with a paddle in hand and a splash on their boat.

Last week, the Rhinos and Dragons ESU's hosted their first joint training camp to prepare for their summer jamboree Spejdernes Lejr!

There was fire lighting, axe skills, team games, ice breakers, skills sharing, pioneering, outdoor cooking, and some slightly suspect meals made...

All ready for Denmark in July! Maybe..? 🤔

From high-stakes international games to looking sharp for our new unit photo, this week was a total blast!

It was a night of global challenges, lots of laughs, and we still managed to look good for the camera. 📸✨

This week we hosted a LEGO Serious Play night, with a fun focus on rewriting and updating our unit ethos and constitution.

Directly controlled, written and updated by our explorers, with a youth led and youth shaped agenda.
