Blackburn United 2015 Girls

No league game this Sunday. The girls are making the most of this by taking part in the Wallace Cup which is being held at Stirling University. Looks a great setup for the festival and gives us some new teams to play.

Blackburn United Ladies/Girls

The girls made the short trip along the road to play Murieston yesterday in a league match.

We knew Murieston would be a tough test but the girls were right up for it from the start. As our regular safe hands Sarah is away for a couple of weeks, Lauren, Morgana and Evie H shared goalkeeping duties for us. Massive thanks to the 3 of them who all did well in their 20 minute stints with the gloves.

We defended well as a team, played some good stuff and scored some cracking goals.

Opposition POTM - Holly

Captain for the day was Chelsea and it was a proper captains performance from her driving the team on from the middle of the park.

Top performance from the girls this morning against a strong Musselburgh side who got the ball down and played the game properly.

Our first half performance especially today was absolutely top drawer. 2nd half was pretty even but we still played really well. Some great goals scored, defended well as a team and good to see them bounce back from a poor display by our standards last week.

Captain once again was Indi. Said it all before re why she earns the right to be Captain.

Referees POTM: Morgana “running power was brilliant”

Indi “very calm on the ball in defence and pushed up into gaps well”.

Apologies for the lack of match updates over the past week or so.

Last Sunday the girls travelled through to Bonnyrigg for a league match. Unfortunately, the game was played on a ridiculously small pitch for 9 a sides which meant the game was more a battle than anything else. Given the age and size difference, it meant we were up against it from the off. Miles from our best that day although 3 of our 4 goals were absolutely brilliant passing moves.

Captain for the day was Indi. What a season she’s having and her level at training is always really high.

Brilliant advert for girls football this morning. Cracking game between 2 teams who get the ball down and play.

It was end to end the full match. After going ahead early on, we found ourselves behind for a large part of the game. The Blackburn girls didn’t let the heads go down and deservedly got an equaliser with 10 mins to go. Some brilliant passing moves today and they also battled well.

Captain for today was Gizzy who’s raised her level at training again recently.

Opposition POTM was Lana - “good with ball at feet and keen to take risks to get up the pitch”.
