Today the girls played their 1st game in the Scottish cup against Edinburgh Sth, girls were looking to make it to the next round and make amends after last week.
Could they bounce back and make amends.
First half was a little scrappy but still had control of the game, with the only goal coming in the first half through Maria after 32mins, just as we moved to a 343 formation, causing Edinburgh more trouble to their backline.
HT 1-0 Blackburn
Few changes at half time and it only took 1min for Maria to get on the scoresheet again on the 46mins on the clock 2-0 Blackburn.
Edinburgh were forced to push forward to get back into the game which allowed Blackburn to pressure more and capitalise on the gaps.
53mins and Aleisha added to the scoreline.
This was the girls showing that last week was more of a blip and showed some great passing and determination to win the ball, working for each other which is becoming their strength and really nice to see, there were some battles happening but it was Blackburn who turned the screw further with Maria adding yet another 2 goals in the 61st and 68th minute, making it 4 for Maria so far, the girls were certainly making up for the previous week, on the 75th minute Edinburgh pulled did get a consolation, making it 5-1, but this annoyed our girls and pushed every ounce of energy they had left in the heat, with Cara opening the gap further with a through ball she received and calmly slotted it past the keeper with 2 defenders trying to muscle her out. Then 3 minutes later Lois received the ball, rounds a couple of defenders and as the angle got narrower and just as it looked her opportunity was going, somehow she squeezed it between the goalpost and the keeper.
Just as the clock was ticking down to full time, Maria on the 88th minute, there she was again, with a nice through ball, perfectly weighted for her, Maria gets her 5th of the game.
FT Blackburn 8 - 1 Edinburgh Sth
This was the team we watch in training every week, great movement and determination to keep and win the ball.
Well done girls, I’m sure from a spectator’s perspective this was a game of two halves.
We now await the draw for the next round.
But the girls now turn their focus to this Sunday as it’s back to league business with the visit of Spartans Harrison’s, and back to training on Tuesday to prep for the weekends game.
Player of the match could have been most of the team for how the played, but it has to be Maria Donnelly, it’s not every day your striker gets 5.

This Sunday the girls are in another Cup round, they start their Scottish Cup campaign against Edinburgh Sth CFC, not a team they have met yet in the league.
Girls are looking to give a good account of themselves, and erase the disappointment of last week.
Worked on a few things in training that should set them up well for Sunday.
Come along and give the girls your support, it’s a home game.
At the New Murrayfield Stadium, Ash Grove, Blackburn.
Kick Off 12:00pm
3G pitch.
Dunbar v Blackburn this was a well fought game, with both sides cancelling each other out in the first half.
Blackburn got a head with a lovely shot from Caoimhe in from the left side into the top right on the 41st minute which split the sides.
Dunbar came out as expected looking for the equaliser, it took a long ball clearance from the Dunbar goal that gave their forwards the opportunity, with the Blackburn rear guard chasing to close but the forward had a few yards and placed it past Alex on the 86th minute, taking the game to penalties.
FT 1-1 (4-2 to Dunbar on penalties)
We wish Dunbar the very best for the going forward in the cup.
