Horwich St Mary’s Rockets are looking for new players to join our current U11s team ahead of the move to U12s next season.

All positions welcome, outfield players and goalkeepers. We’re currently holding open training sessions on Monday evenings.

A bit of a farce with player numbers this morning again from Astley Bridge, but we got under way with 7v7 which became 8v8 and then 9v9 for second half.

Luca, Daniel and Ethan shone in the midfield and attacking positions this morning, both our wingers scored.

Awande POTM with a stunning second half display absolutely running his socks off in midfield, winning the ball and driving forward, playing dangerous passes and almost scoring a couple.

Second half performance built on a strong defensive first half, team passing was excellent throughout. Joseph stood out as our POTM in defence, Sam always looked steady behind him. Mason, Marcus and Daniel ran their socks off and cleared their lines well.

Our midfield clicked into gear in the second half. Our triallist, Awande, confidently passing from the right wing, with Evie and Daniel providing some clever link up play. Luca worked hard on the wing, and was excellent in the second half at looking and finding passes to teammates. In central midfield, Ethan and Freddie mopped up countless loose balls and helped build attack after attack.

But for goals, you need killers. Joey and Monica stepped up today, a brilliant penalty from Joey and two clever finishes inside the box from Monica helping seal a 3-1 win.

From back to front, that was a proper team performance. Built on running and fighting, but with some quality on top. Step by step

That's more like it. Superb defensive display, building on our plan from training with Marcus, Joe and Mason shielding POTM Sam who kept Rockets in the match in the first 15 minutes with some outstanding saves.

Midfield of Ethan, Freddie, Evie, Luca and Monica grew into the match, getting a stranglehold of possession and being able support Joey.

Joey was lethal this morning, bagging four goals and an assist.

Mason stood out playing on the left side of defence but Sam's incredible saves prove why he's such an important addition to our team. His kicking set up chance after chance and that's why he deserves the plaudits for this match.
