Chester Marathon

I DID IT!! It was going so well until half way. And from then on I was in pain. My hamstrings were killing me and it became about pain management and getting across the finish line. It’s not the time I wanted. But it became about so much more than that. I’m now a 2x marathon finisher and I’m so proud of myself 💖

A sub 1:20?! 3rd in my AG plus 13th overall female?! Sorry what?! 🥹

I decided just last night that sub 1:20 was the goal. It didn’t start well, I lost my timing chip as soon as I pushed off from the wall which threw me, I panicked (unnecessarily), swam breast stroke & had a coughing fit with 2 lengths to go so came out with a swim time that is absolutely not what I’m capable of or was planning. But I decided I wasn’t going to let it affect the rest of my race so as planned, I raced the bike & got the sub 40 that I wanted. The run felt hard, it always does, but I’m happy with how I paced it at an average pace of 5:26/km.

I’m really pleased with myself today. Last year I raced this event in 1:35 so today is a 16 minute PB. I’m so proud of all the progress I’ve made since I started triathlon at the start of last summer, which I absolutely couldn’t have done without the amazing coaches at 💖

Growing up thinking I needed to be skinny played a big part in my relationship with exercise and food and the way I thought about myself. Breaking that cycle wasn’t easy and there’s still days I struggle with it. But I hope that my example will mean that my beautiful daughter means feels that way 💖

15k in the bag this morning. Got a bit wet. It was a bit windy. But hey, it’s England in September, what do I expect? 🤣

Trying out my new 360 Relief compression socks today. They are breathable and aim to help support circulation, reduce muscle fatigue and aid the discomfort of heavy legs during running. It’s only my first time wearing them but so far so good!

Big run week next week which I need to make sure I nail after my last two long runs only ended up being half what they should’ve been and then we’re into the taper ahead of Chester marathon!

Once upon a time, I never thought my body would be capable of what it is now. I used to think I needed to be skinny, always wanting to be smaller. Now I know my body can be strong, capable and resilient. And I want more of that 💪🏻
