Sometimes, we need to cruel to be kind, but it’s your child’s life at stake.
Nothing replaces active supervision. Nothing.
We do not get second chances with drowning.
So when people message me asking, “What if my child doesn’t like swim lessons?” … honestly?
I don’t care if they fuss.
I don’t care if they cry because they’re doing something they didn’t choose.
I would rather you have a child who is temporarily upset than a child who is gone forever.
I used to spend so much time explaining why survival swim lessons matter.
Why layers of protection matter.
Why supervision matters.
But I’ve realised something: people usually already have their minds made up.
It’s not my job to convince someone of the value of their child’s life.
If safety is truly the priority, then a few weeks of discomfort is absolutely worth the peace of mind of having a skilled swimmer with survival skills.
Drowning is fast. It is silent. And it does not care how much you love your child.

Did you know? 🌊
88% of children who drown had at least one adult present at the time.
Let that sink in.
Supervision is essential — but supervision means eyes on the water, undivided, the whole time. Not glancing up from your phone. Not chatting with another parent. Active watching.
Designate a "Water Watcher" at every pool gathering. No exceptions.

With warm weather forecast this weekend and into next week, more of us will enjoy spending time in, on, or around water, so it’s important to stay safe.
Almost half (47%) of UK accidental drownings happen between May and August, with higher risks during warmer weather.
Keep yourself and your family safe:
• Check for hazards, including depth, currents, tides, and hidden underwater objects.
• Stay together and swim in lifeguarded areas.
In an emergency:
• Call 999 immediately
• If you fall in or become tired, stay calm, float on your back, and call for help
