Frimley Green 2–1 Whitehill & Bordon FC Veterans

The Veteran Stags opened their account on the road at a very poor (almost unplayable) Frimley Green Pitch, and while the scoreline reads as a 2–1 defeat, it told almost nothing of the story. On a first outing for a squad featuring eight new faces, this was a performance to build a season on.
From the first whistle, the Stags took the game to their hosts, dominating every area of the pitch, moving the ball with purpose and looking the more composed, more dangerous side throughout. Every time they went forward they carried a threat.
The game’s defining moment came on 33 minutes. A cross shot from Oram-Tooley was hammered goalwards and clearly crossed the line, the ball well over by some distance, but the goal was not given. On any pitch with goal-line technology, the Stags lead 1–0 at the break and this is a very different afternoon. Instead, a clear goal was chalked off, and the game turned on a decision that should never have been.
Conditions did the spectacle no favours either. The playing surface was among the worst the squad has encountered, genuinely unsafe in places, and a real credit to both sides that football was played on it at all. The Stags, to their credit, still tried to play the right way, and largely succeeded.
Despite the setback of the disallowed goal, the Stags kept coming. Their persistence was rewarded on 80’ minutes, when a superb James Harvey cross was met by Parker, who made no mistake with a top bins header to level the game - a deserved equaliser and no more than the performance merited.
A scuffed-goal against the run of play on 86th minute gave the home team the points.

“In a squad made up of eight new faces today, the boys did themselves proud. Frimley got lucky, they know it, and they won’t be looking forward to the return fixture. Every time we went forward we looked dangerous. No doubt whatsoever we’ll get our revenge.”
The Stags are back in action next weekend, at home on a 4G surface, against Mondial Veterans and will be looking to convert this level of performance into three points.
