Our first defeat of pre-season, on a day where Wessex proved the more clinical side in front of goal.
The Grays started brightly, creating some good early chances. Rocket had a few opportunities, including a brilliant back-post ball from Meg that she couldnโt quite get a foot onto.
Defensively we kept things tight in a low block, watching the movement of Wessex closely. Eventually they found the breakthrough. A powerful effort through the middle was met by a fantastic diving save from Elle, but the loose ball fell kindly for Wessex to finish.
Their second came from an unlikely source as the Wessex goalkeeper made a run through the middle before finding the roof of the Grays net with a well-taken strike.
The Grays continued to press, with Bentley, Sara and Lydia all getting opportunities, but we couldnโt find the finish. Instead, Wessex added a third after a ball across goal was unfortunately turned into our own net.

The second half brought a response. Heads stayed up, the intensity lifted and the Grays finally found their reward. Kim kicked in from a corner to find Meg who struck a brilliant effort into the bottom-right corner to make it 3-1. ๐
The momentum continued as Megโs effort was kept out by the Wessex keeper, but Jo was there to confidently smash home the rebound.

Both sides continued to create chances, but Wessex ultimately made theirs count. They added a fourth before a late deflection off a Grays player found its way into the net to complete the scoring.

Not our best day at the office and a disappointing result, but another valuable 40 minutes of futsal with plenty to take away as our pre-season comes to an end.
Credit to Wessex Athletic who gave us a great competitive game and deserved the result. Thank you for hosting us and we wish you all the best for the season ahead. ๐ค
