This weekend myself (Mark) Noel and Martin went on a bike ride in the glorious weather! Starting at Steamer point down to the chain ferry where Noel left us, which left myself and Martin to the purbeck hills. In total we managed to do 52 miles (despite Martin wanting to go further 🤣🙈) Martin and Noel really made me appreciate and respect how much effort they put into staying active and not letting Parkinsons define who they are! I am really proud of the togetherness this club has and the support we all have for each other! 💙⚽️

This week's meet the striders is Louise 🩵⚽

What advise would you give to somebody newly diagnosed with Parkinson's?
Take time to process the diagnosis. Parkinson’s had not even crossed my mind when I was diagnosed so I was a little shell shocked.

What encouraged you to start playing walking football?
I listened to the “movers and shakers” podcast about walking football and thought this was something I would like to try. I’m so pleased I went along, not sure I am getting any better but I enjoy it and love being out in the fresh air come rain or shine!

What's the best piece of advice you have been given since your Parkinson's diagnosis about the condition?
Parkinson’s is individual so try not to compare to others. Also, listen to your body, take rest when needed but exercise when and however you can.

Describe yourself in 3 words?
Indecisive, cheerful, patient

What's something you wish you had known about Parkinson's that you know now?
It’s a learning curve. There are many Parkinson’s related groups available which has meant I have tried numerous activities and met wonderful, supportive people that I would not have done previously. Life alters but doesn’t stop.

Nominate someone for next week's meet the striders?
Dave Muskett

Fantastic session Wednesday with a great turnout. 3 teams playing a round robin of games followed by a big match with everybody on the pitch towards the end! As always a great team togetherness and team spirit on and off the pitch! ⚽🩵
