Stage 84 - The Yorkshire School of Performing Arts Proudly founded in Bradford in 1984, we are among the longest established and best-known schools of performing arts in the North of England.

We offer a range of classes for young people aged 3 to 18 and are celebrating our 40th Anniversary in 2024.

STAGE AWARDS 🎖️

We awarded multiple STAGE Award medals this month in recognition of recent achievements at Stage 84, and this particular group of awards were exceptionally well deserved for Teamwork.

In early September, with just one month to go until our production of Footloose and only a limited number of rehearsals remaining, we found ourselves needing someone to step in and cover two roles in the show.

We welcomed Joshua to the cast, who gave his all from his very first rehearsal as he quickly began learning lines, blocking, vocal work, choreography and direction. Josh soon blended seamlessly into the cast and went on to do us proud on stage at Yeadon Town Hall.

The whole cast worked together to support Josh, but none more so than the young actors sharing his main scenes and the number Mama Says. This included Marryk, who gave up lunchtimes and free time after school to work with Josh, alongside fellow Stage 84 students Issac, Owen and Callum.

All five took to the stage in Footloose: Youth Edition last week and played their part in what proved to be another exceptional Stage 84 production.

A brilliant example of the Teamwork at the heart of Stage 84, and very worthy recipients of this month’s STAGE Award. 💪

STAGE AWARDS 🎖️

One of our new STAGE Awards was presented to senior Performing Arts, Contemporary Dance and 1-1 Singing student, Theah.

This medal was presented to Theah in recognition of the support she gave to her fellow students back in July, as many of our 1-1 students were preparing for their LAMDA Musical Theatre (Solo) examinations.

We were proud to see a number of our senior students helping others in the run-up to the exams by chatting through the discussion elements, running introductions and acting pieces, and helping younger students to feel prepared and confident.

Theah went above and beyond, coming in early of her own accord on several occasions to sit with students of different ages and exam levels, drawing on her own experience of previous LAMDA examinations to support and encourage them.

This was lovely for us to observe and a great example of the way we love to see Stage 84 students being there for one another and encouraging the success of their peers.

Well done to Theah, and to all our students on their fantastic solo LAMDA examination performances this year. 🫶

At Stage 84, our commitment to students goes far beyond preparing them for the stage, examinations and other performances. We are guided by the values displayed on our studio walls: Support, Teamwork, Artistry, Growth and Excellence. đź’ś

While our students demonstrate these values continuously throughout the year, each month we will recognise a student who has gone above and beyond and truly represents what it means to be part of Stage 84.

Our first ever STAGE Award goes to Barney!

Barney has been recognised for his growth, dedication, manners and kindness. He has been an exemplary student in class, arriving ready to learn and consistently showing kindness and respect towards both his fellow students, teachers and staff.

A huge well done, Barney. We are incredibly proud of you and look forward to seeing your continued growth at Stage 84. 🌳

BACKSTAGE – DISNEY’S ALADDIN JR & FOOTLOOSE: YOUTH EDITION 🔦👗

A production takes a huge amount of teamwork behind the scenes, and putting on two productions requires an incredible number of people giving their time, skills and support.

From set building throughout the summer, costume preparation and technical work, to rehearsals and everything happening backstage during show week, our productions simply would not be possible without the dedicated volunteers and creatives who contribute their time behind the scenes. Their commitment and teamwork played a huge part in bringing Disney’s Aladdin JR. and Footloose: Youth Edition to the stage.

And then there was the get out! Once the final curtain falls, the work isn’t quite finished. Our volunteers worked tirelessly to remove scenery, equipment and everything else from the theatre - as you can see in the image, some of the team working until after 1:30am on Sunday morning!🪜

These photos show just a small selection of the many people who worked behind the scenes, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who played their part. From the first piece of scenery being built to the final item being packed away, it truly takes teamwork to make the dream work.

And very soon… time to do it all again for our Christmas production at St George’s Hall! 🎄

LET’S HEAR IT FOR OUR FOOTLOOSE CAST!
FOOTLOOSE: YOUTH EDITION 🎶👢

What a fantastic few days for Stage 84’s Footloose: Youth Edition cast! We are incredibly proud of every student who took to the stage at Yeadon Town Hall. Their talent, energy and confidence shone through in every performance and wow, were we blown away by the talent! A huge congratulations to them all!

Our sincere thank yous go to our teachers, production team, chaperones, volunteers and everyone who worked behind the scenes, as well as all those who gave their time and support throughout the process. Every contribution helped, we couldn’t have done it without you! 💜

We would also like to thank all of our parents, families, friends and supporters who came along to Yeadon Town Hall. It was wonderful to see the audience enjoying the music, getting behind our students and, of course, tapping their feet along to some of those fantastic songs!

WHAT A MAGICAL SHOW! - DISNEY’S ALADDIN JR ✨🧞‍♂️

What an incredible few days it has been for Stage 84! A huge congratulations to every student who took to the stage in our double bill of Disney’s Aladdin JR and Footloose: Youth Edition. We are incredibly proud of the hard work, commitment and teamwork shown by our students throughout the rehearsals and performances.

A very special thank you also goes to everyone who helped make these productions possible behind the scenes, including our teachers, production team, chaperones, volunteers and everyone who gave their time, skills and support along the way. We couldn’t have done it without you! 💜

And of course, thank you to all of our parents, families, friends and supporters who came along to Yeadon Town Hall to watch the shows and support our students. Seeing the audience enjoying the performances and cheering our students on made all the hard work worthwhile!

In Memory of Mrs Jackson

This week, as our students took to the stage at Yeadon Town Hall, a seat remained reserved in memory of Stage 84’s Founder and Principal, Mrs Valerie Jackson MBE.

For more than four decades, Mrs J was at the heart of Stage 84. Her vision, determination and love of the performing arts created countless opportunities for generations of young people, and the school we know today stands as part of her remarkable legacy.

As the auditorium filled and the lights went down for our productions of Disney’s Aladdin JR and Footloose: Youth Edition, it felt only right that a place should be kept for her.

Forever part of Stage 84, and very much in our thoughts throughout a special week of performances. đź’ś
