Sparkleforce: The Mermaid Playground

Got up at 5.30 this morning for a not-quite-sunrise swim. Well worth it for the beautiful light and mild sense of adventure associated with getting up before most other people :)

Oh hi! Just dropping in from another watery dimension to say I FRICKING SAW DOLPHINS IN THE SEA IN BRIGHTON TODAY!!! It was millpond flat out there and the underwater visibility is finally returning. Loads of beautiful little sea comb jellies out by the back buoy behind the West Pier too...

We were out on the beach post-swim when we saw the dolphins so we didn't swim with them but I'm hopeful that we might see them while in the water sometime this year as they were not that far out!

Underwater in my happy place! Currently feeling coldy and sadly not sea swimming today as a result...

It feels like this year I'm finally waking up feeling calm and curious about what the day will hold, rather than anxious and overwhelmed. Obviously not every day, but a lot of the days.

It feels like this year I'm choosing to do what I want to do even if nobody else thinks it's a good idea.

It feels like this year I'm starting to unhook myself from the idea that being liked by others is the be all and end all.

It feels like this year I'm choosing myself in every little thing I do and starting to break the conditioning of a lifetime.

I'd love to hear where you are at too. It feels good to be seen.

The sea once it casts it's spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever... Jaques Cousteau. The sea has certainly cast it's spell on me, I love it's ever changing moods. Today it was misty and sparkling silver, with the shining white of the sky and sea indistinguishable from each other towards the horizon. Shorewards the city shimmered in a dreamy haze, and the pier slipped into the distance. The white metallic surface of the water belied the green murk below.

I'm going to miss my regular seaswims over the Easter holidays.

At the Tidal on Saturday somebody said to me "I wouldn't have had the confidence to come if I hadn't seen all your body positive posts on Instagram" and although a part of me feels sad that people feel wary of whether they will receive respect, love and acceptance based on what their body looks like, another part of me glowed with pride and happiness:- That in a world where people do feel wary of the way they'll be treated if their body doesn't conform to ridiculous and unattainable societal expectations, we are able to offer a place at our mermaiding events where you can feel confident of respect and of being treated like you belong. What your body looks like does not dictate what you are 'allowed' to do. Never let other people tell you you can't be a mermaid! Come mer with Mer-Made!

We aim to provide a wide range of tail sizings. If you are worried about whether we have a tail that will fit you, please drop me a message and I will ensure we have a tail that fits!

I just realised all my body posi stuff and quotes say Sparkleforce: The Mermaid Playground, but the body posi attitude is something that is gonna continue through whatever mermaidy stuff I do, whether it's my old solo business Sparkleforce, or my joint venture with freediving coach Marcus Greatwood as Mer-Made :)

Does anyone else find it incredibly hard to get stuff done during half term? I just realised I haven't posted for a week, and I meant to tell you all that it is our Haywards Heath Tidal at The Dolphin Leisure Centre tomorrow (Saturday 23rd Feb).
