Did you know that in 2010 a Large Buck led his mob of Kangaroos into the to Tincha Tamba Wetlands by swimming across the Pine River. Tinchi Tamba Update
Brighton Kangaroos visited Tinchi Tamba yesterday - first opportunity as there had been road closures and we could not gain access. There is a lot of debris, downed trees and boggy ground. It was lovely to see the Mob relaxing and enjoying the late afternoon sun. There was no evidence of any stress or injury. There were quite a few young ones and we noted some of the older mob who would have survived 2022. Gave us hope!

Thank you for your queries, we share your concerns.

Our amazing friends at Wildlife Rescue Queensland helped with our beautiful Mob during the 2022 weather event.

Please note this useful information they have shared regarding wildlife in our area and the pending Tropical Cyclone. Please reach out to WRQ if you have any queries.

We will be monitoring the page and will check on the Mob post the weather event. However as it is still unknown what is ahead, communications may be limited. Please stay safe.

Come along to the Environmental Hub at Deception Bay this Thursday night to learn about kangaroos from University of Sunshine Coast researcher, Jasmin Annett. Attendance is free, please register via the link

Talking about Kangaroos 17 October 2024. 7.00 PM at the Deception Bay Environmental Hub (see events page). https://www.trybooking.com/CVCZT

In all the years of working around our bushcare sites and wetlands I have been amazed by the mobs of kangaroos living in our bushland and nature reserves. Over the years, as urban development continues, we are seeing less and less of these iconic species at these sites. Learn about the latest use of technology to understand how they move in the landscape and implications for their conservation.. You can register for free at the link above!

Hope to see you there (Bob Crudgington REF Environmental)

Thanks to Keep Sandgate Beautiful Association Inc who hosted another kangaroo walk through Tinchi Tamba this morning. We were joined by ecologist, Dr Beth Brunton and 2 colleagues from the University of the Sunshine Coast and interested community members.

Tinchi Tamba is such vital habitat for the eastern grey kangaroos, whose population declined as a result of the February 2022 floods when many drowned. With the Gateway Motorway Bruce Highway Upgrade (GMBHU) set to begin next year, we will lose 20 hectares of this beautiful wetland, also home to 238 species of birds. Please consider writing to the Minister for Main Roads Bart Mellish MP and local member Stirling Hinchliffe MP to ensure wildlife solutions are included in this project. Our dwindling green spaces are vital for the wildlife that live there and our own well-being.

It was encouraging to see 5 fauna bridges/overpasses along the Pacific Highway from Woolgoolga to the border on my travels back to Queensland yesterday. The Pacific Highway upgrade traverses diverse landscapes and over the past 20 years Dept of Transport NSW (along with Federal funding) has developed and implemented a wide range of design and management measures to mitigate and offset impacts to native wildlife.

It is therefore disappointing to note that no fauna overpasses have been included in planning by TMR for the Gateway Motorway Bruce Highway Upgrade project (GMBHU) to widen the arterial through Bracken Ridge to the Pine River bridge. We are set to lose 20 hectares of Tinchi Tamba to accommodate this upgrade (along with the fire and ambulance stations), yet only 2 underpasses have been included. Tinchi Tamba is vital habitat, home to endangered koalas, a population of eastern grey kangaroos (whose numbers were severely affected in the Feb 2022 floods) and a variety of bird species.

Please contact Minister [email protected] and ask for better outcomes for our wildlife and the environment relating to the GMBHU project. How will the rate payers of Brisbane be reimbursed for loss of this vital habitat? Where are the offsets to be? We are fast running out of habitat and green spaces….

Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 4 concept design video (Burleigh Heads to Tugun section) 09/04/2024

Gold Coast Light Rail - Stage 4.

At the 0.25 second part of the flyover - there is a wildlife bridge. Proves that it can be done. This is a TMR supported/funded program - landscape not dissimmilar to the Bruce Highway upgrade, so the question lingers - why has this not been an option for us?
