A huge shoutout and thank you to everyone who joined the YHA England and Wales Bristol Social Nordic Walk today!
You totally smashed learning the Nordic walking technique and handled every challenge Bristol Harbourside threw at us—railway tracks and all! Big thanks to YHA Bristol for the yummy tea, coffee, and cake at the finish. What an awesome morning, with even the weather on our side! Hope to see you all again soon… maybe at the INWA World Championships 2025? 😉

Preparing for a challenge walk? Nordic Walking can boost your speed and enhance your walking technique! Here's why:
1. Posture: Maintains proper body alignment, ensuring efficiency even when you're tired.
2. Feet: The heel-toe foot action helps prevent blisters.
3. Joints: Poles reduce pressure on your joints, especially on downhill sections.
4. Speed: Nordic Walking naturally increases your pace!

Nordic walking can help avoid blisters since you strike with your heel and roll through your foot naturally, generating less friction, but there are other techniques to prevent blisters.
1. Try on the Nordic Walking shoes; you want to find the best shoe for your feet; if they feel like slippers, get them!
2. Socks! Don't skimp on them, invest in some good quality walking/hiking socks without rough seams which wick the moisture away.
3. If you're going on a long walk, such as a marathon, taping up any worry areas with microporous (or similar) blue physio tape or applying a thin layer of Vaseline to your feet will help avoid blisters.
4. Soggy feet! Whether it's sweat or rain, keep your feet dry! Bring an extra pair of socks with you for a long Nordic Walk!

What is Nordic Walking? Nordic walking is a variation of regular walking that uses two poles and a unique technique to provide support and engage your upper body. It also promotes correct posture and body alignment. Think of it as an outdoor Pilates experience that boosts balance and strength in a supportive, holistic way. It's energetic and lots of fun.
