Did you know dragon boat racing has a 2,300-year-old history? ππ It all began with the legend of Qu Yuan (ε±ε), a beloved poet who drowned himself in the Miluo River as a protest against corruption.
Heartbroken villagers raced their boats to save him, beating drums to scare away fish β and so began the Duanwu Festival (η«―εθ), celebrated worldwide today!
πΉ Fun Fact:
- Modern dragon boats fit 20+ paddlers and reach speeds of 20 km/h!
Do you know any other ancient sports with such an emotional origin story?
