Clevedon Summer 10k - last race of the Southville running club championship.
Last ran this race back in 2016 when I was younger, lighter and faster. Was chasing a 53:30 target time and was pretty convinced I wouldn’t make it.
Made good pace though and was seeing 5:10s which put me into 5k around 26 mins. Usually I die quite badly towards the end of my runs but managed to keep my legs going on the flat course.
Was very glad to see the clock just past 53:00 on my way up to the finish and think I was inside target by ten or so seconds.
Happy with that result.
For the observant, you’ll notice I went wild with the sock choice today. Have been advised by docs to wear compression to counter my incompletant calf veins. Medical requirements dont need to be boring.
Will take today as a result as well as my longest distance ran this year:
Got some longer stuff coming up but nice to know I’m able to race when pressured.

Teatime multi-terrain up at the Blaise Blazer.

First race up here since before lockdown. Some cracking hills. Wasnt my fastest but had fun (which is the main thing innit)

Weston prom run Series #8 of #9

Chipping away at the time on a night where I left my garmin at home (accidentally).

Didn’t check my target time for our club championship but looks like I got in a few seconds ahead of it and beat round #7 by half a minute. Rare treat of dry weather but did have head winds at both ends of the prom. Nothing quite like a sandblast to keep you focussed..

A little bit of adventure for New Year’s Eve. Took to the Green Man route on the Community Footpath in reverse to go and catch those doing the full route as they made their way back to Ashton Court.
Wet under foot and bad weather meant the day was long for those taking part. Caught my first runners on the downs in the first 30 mins but it was an hour more before I caught Jim Plunkett-Cole and Co. By that point we were more walk than run so by the time we got to the pub is I’d clocked 4 hours out and they’d managed 13 1/2.
Glad of a beer after and glad to get my tea after.
14 miles covered.

Chilling with the greenman at Ashton Court. Once a woodwose, always a woodwose.

I’m not sure if I’m a town mouse or a country mouse but I do love a bit of rural wilderness when I get the opportunity.
