Back Squat 101

Most people don’t struggle with the squat because they’re weak, they struggle because they’re not in the right position to use their strength effectively.

Strength is built in training, but it’s expressed through how well you control and stabilise each rep.
If you’re not braced properly or your balance is off, you’re leaking force throughout the lift and that’s often what makes a weight feel heavier than it should.

Before testing week, focus on:
• Bracing properly before you move
• Sitting down and slightly back
• Driving through your midfoot

These details don’t just make your squat look better, they determine how much strength you can actually express under the bar, especially as the weight gets heavier.

Testing week isn’t about guessing, it’s about executing with confidence and control.

Dial this in now, and give yourself the best chance to feel stable, move well, and hit the numbers you’re capable of when it counts.

Sumo deadlift 101

Most people don’t struggle with a sumo deadlift because they’re weak, they struggle because they’re out of position.

Strength is built in training, but it’s expressed through your setup.
If you’re not creating tension and using the right position, you’re losing force before the bar even leaves the floor.

Before testing week, focus on:
• Finding the right stance for your build
• Pulling tension into the bar before you lift
• Pushing the floor apart to stay strong through the movement

Testing week isn’t about guessing, it’s about executing.

Nail this before testing week and you’ll be able to show your true strength off the floor.
