​We know these boys incredibly well and have shared some absolute classic battles with them. They were the very first team to welcome and play us when we started out, and we’ll always be grateful for that. It was tough to see the team fold, but they are back in full spirit and ready for war.

We welcome the challenge and can’t wait to share the pitch with them again.

Unity FC 2–2 Hatters FC

Hatters FC arrived in Blackpool on a glorious day, with perfect conditions for what promised to be an entertaining cup fixture. However, the game almost failed to get underway after issues with both the pitch and referee threatened a postponement. Thankfully, a late change of venue saved the day and the match went ahead.

The Hatters made the worst possible start, conceding after just 60 seconds as Unity FC took an early 1-0 lead.

To their credit, Hatters responded brilliantly. After settling into the game, they began to put Unity under pressure and were rewarded with a penalty. Debutant Mike Berry stepped up confidently and slotted home from the spot to level the scores at 1-1.

Not long afterwards, another debutant made his mark. Lee Wilson produced an excellent through ball that split the Unity defence, allowing Ben Zebrowski to race through and calmly finish to give Hatters a 2-1 lead.

The second half saw Unity push hard for an equaliser and eventually they found a way through to make it 2-2. Chances were limited for both sides after that, with the game becoming a hard-fought contest in midfield. Unity were handed a golden opportunity to take the lead but failed to convert a penalty, while Hatters were left frustrated by several questionable offside decisions.

In the end, a draw was probably a fair result in an enjoyable and competitive cup tie.

Man of the Match: Danny Grady, who produced a superb defensive display. Solid at the back throughout, he led by example and was instrumental in helping Hatters secure the draw.
