The final action of the outdoors season took place today, with the Balsham pairs competition. The weather didn’t look great at the start of the day but the rain soon relented and we got under way, with a full complement of 24 pairs, thanks to a few people stepping in to make up the numbers. After a long and enjoyable days the competition, the final was contested by Steve and Trish Newman against Neil Whitehead and Simon Till, the later being a last minute replacement. Neil and Simon were victorious and took home the trophy. A special thank you must go to the people who helped make it a successful day, Jean, Margaret, Dot and Anne for doing the food, Brian for running the bar, Dave and Nicki for the raffle. Steve Botten for running the competition, Steve, Keith and John for getting the green and pavillion ready, and Phil and Christine for organising. And finally a big thank you to all the players and supporters who made it a great day.

We’ve come to the end of our tour to Weymouth, the weather hasn’t been as kind to us as in recent years, but that aside we have had a very enjoyable weekend. Yesterday we travelled to play Portland Victoria bowls club, in a reduced game due to the weather conditions, unfortunately we came second, let down by the chairman’s rink, which lost by 18 shots. That aside we enjoyed the great hospitality of our hosts after the game and look forward to returning in future years.
Today we ventured up the road to play Greenhill, again we were made very welcome, and unlike yesterday the rain held off, and the sun did manage a brief appearance through the cloud. Just like yesterday though we did endure another defeat by 7 shots, and again it could be argued that the Chairman’s was at fault again! This was soon forgotten for an hour or two as we retired to the bar for drinks, pies and a raffle. We must thank our captains for the two matches, Steve Botten and John Robinson, our coach driver Steve and a special thank you to Christine for organising the tour and looking after everybody while we’ve been in Weymouth.

On Saturday the 7th of September, we welcome our friends from Balsham Bowling Club all the way from Cambridge. It is quite a journey for them to visit us and we look forward to seeing them here at our lovely little Club.
Playing friendly matches always helps cement relationships between Clubs locally and from further afield, and is an integral part of what this brilliant sport is all about. The friendships you make will last a lifetime.
All are very welcome to come and watch as this will be our last friendly of the season.
As for our little club... We have had a really successful season. And is has been achieved due to the hard work and commitment of our Players, our superb volunteer green team and all those behind the scenes who help keep our club at the very heart of the Underhill community.
I will post again soon to update you all on our successes this season, and I will do so with great Pride and exceptional Bias!
Fond regards!
Andy (PVBC Vice Chairman)
