Welcome to St Catharine's College Table Tennis Club! Watch this space for upcoming announcements!

If you enjoy playing table tennis or would like to give it a try, we will be organising table tennis sessions at our Donald Portway Sports Pavilion next to South Green Lodge. For those who would like to play For The Wheel and represent Catz at college level, why not try out for a team?

Dear Kang,

Yeah, there isn’t actually a team, not that I know of at least, but the new Sports and Societies Officer for the JCR decided he wanted table tennis to be a sport on the alumni day and I offered to be captain (I only really play for enjoyment, I find it quite fun). None of us are really amazing, and I’ve only had a few friends offer to play, but bring whoever you want! We can all just play each other and have fun.

Dear Callum,

Good of you to write. According to the league tables this year Catz did not enter any teams into cuppers. Therefore us old boys assumed there was no team. We are obviously mistaken! So how is the team doing this year in cuppers? I must know the results so I will know better which level of players I should contact. We have everyone from beginners to All England players to former Olympians. Do advise.

Hi,

I’m Callum, the captain of the St Catz table tennis team. I’m emailing to ask how many people you will be bringing to play for your team on the 18th June, because then I will try and match your number.

Looking forward to playing you and best wishes,

Callum Smith

Reasons why ScCTTC is Better:

We have our club crest with crossed bats
We don't dress like tools
We hit our opponents with used German rubbers
Our old members are bigger and badder than theirs
Our table actually has a history
Our Pavilion is named after a Colonel (Donald Portway that is..)
Our club have half-blues playing for us
We were promoted in the freshers pack
We have a continuous presence in our college's society magazine since at least 1950
We always have the moral victory, no matter the actual outcome
We always have fun

Official Reply from the JCR President Hussain:

Kang,

You appear to have misunderstood the process of the sports funding meeting. There is no 'noon deadline' and this was expressed rather clearly as every other captain of sports teams at St Catharine's turned up the meeting with their proposed funding budgets, as requested. If you were not informed by the MCR, this is far from an issue as your application is still able to be considered in the same way as everybody else's at the meeting. If you wish to be unproductive and threaten to leave the amalgamated clubs as you have expressed to me via facebook then I am sorry but you will not receive any funding. Thus the logic for which you wish to do such an action befalls me. I would like to see table tennis continue at St Catharine's and members of this college who wish to participate with this will undoubtably not support this drastic action.

Going forward, if you wish to receive any college funding please send myself and Dr Little your budget, as I have already requested you to do via facebook.

I believe this has been a misunderstanding on your part and as I have attempted to explain to you multiple times now that you can still get funding like every other club. I hope this email has clearly laid out the process and what steps you must take going forward.

Jamil
JCR President

From Mr. Hussain,

"I'm sorry John did not tell me he had a budget sent in. I will contact him and have it sorted."

From Mr. Tchou,

"I'm sorry John did not tell me he had a budget sent in. I will contact him and have it sorted.
you and the President also missed our deadline which was two minutes ago."

therefore tomorrow at our club meeting we are having an emergency Squash to discuss our formal withdraw from the Amalgamated Clubs.

As I said, Best"

From Mr. Hussain:

"Hi kang. Sorry you did not receive the message for sports meeting. Not to worry if you send me a proposed funding request I will put it through."

"Dear Mr. Hussain, A proposed budget was sent by our captain and treasurer to Dr. Little within two hours of your email to him. It was agreed upon by all members of the club. I don't like to do things at the last minute or repeat my effort. After all, unlike JCR members we are actually doing a bit of research and also have to SUPERVISE those such as you. Therefore why don't you ask President and Dr. Little for it since he and you seem to communicate well.
best"

Dear Miss. Grace and Mr. Hussain,

I do hope I am in error. It seems that we, St Catharine's College Table Tennis Club was never informed regarding the meeting with President and Dr. Little. I am sure this is just a simple error in communication and I do hope we are wrong. However, sending out requests for budgets with the appropriate forms exactly 1 minute before the Noon deadline on the day that it was due, and communicating, apparently, by word of mouth, of the meeting on the day of the meeting is not a way to demonstrate the desire for the Amalgamated Clubs to support Table Tennis at Catz. I certainly I am completely wrong.

I look forward to your reply,
