🌤️💛A massive “why” for my putting the glass filled with alcohol down was my relationships.

🌤️💛Every single relationship I had was in some way being weakened. I wasn’t showing up as I truly want to. I potentially would say or do something embarrassing. I could never be sure as I couldn’t always remember!!

🌤️💛I potentially couldn’t remember the lovely parts of a chat or not use important and impactful active listening skills instead jumping in and therefore stunting the conversation.
I pride myself on being an active listener who doesn’t bring “my stuff” in.

🌤️💛My daughters are a massive part of my story as I take my role as Mum incredibly seriously. I want them to know and feel safe, supported, connected and loved unconditionally. When I was drinking I started to notice my anxiety levels growing as the girls were getting older and were therefore around my drinking more in the evenings. I didn’t like my self doubt growing around my behaviour.

🌤️💛Was I loud, embarrassing, sloppy? I cannot describe the relief, pride and self respect I have now knowing I am consistent, available, present, reliable.
The strength of our relationship is undoubtedly down to my sobriety.

🌤️💛we’ve had a whole lot go on these last years.

🌤️💛 I know in my heart that being alcohol free has enabled and solidified a strength that is unbreakable for us 🤜🏽🤛🏽

🌤️💛When I was drinking alcohol
and I had an event that we’d been invited too I would instantly panic that I could NO WAY go as myself. ie I couldn’t go without relying on alcohol giving me confidence, energy, humour!!! It was too confronting and scary to go as me just me no pretence!

🌤️💛I’d drink as I was getting ready and then as soon as I’d get to the event I’d drink the first glass offered too quickly and be looking for my next one to maintain the persona of confident, funny, engaging Nia!!!!

🌤️💛Last night we went to a party where I knew maybe 5 people and all of these people are in someway linked to my husband and his work so I am “the wife of the boss” the pressure with that always felt huge as my husband is so likeable and a massive extrovert and incredibly talented and admired so in my head I had to be the most fabulous version I could be - I thought alcohol helped me be that version!!! ‼️News flash the hangxiety the next day worrying if I’d overahared, been too much, not been as they’d thought or worse embarrassed myself and my husband was crippling!!!

🌤️💛Nowadays I stand proud in being me, yes a little unsure in new situations, but kind, interested and a bit funny!!!

🌤️💛I can hold engaged conversation and remember them.
I know in my heart that I don’t need to be liked by everyone because I like myself (This is monumental for me)
I am a good human and this version is a version that is role modelling and actually I’m gonna say it trailblazing how life can look alcohol free, that feels pretty fabulous 🌤️💛

🌤️💛EXTRA BONUS I am up and on it this morning and feel strong and confident

🌤️💛 It is so normalised that we have a glass of something alcoholic when we are with our nearest and dearest (and not so) somehow it “adds” to the event the connection the memories but the reality….. are you your most fabulous self after glass 3 do you remember all the chats after glass 4?

🌤️💛I certainly wasn’t and didn’t and that made me sad and self critical, I was shrinking because when I really strip back what I was looking for in those moments was what alcohol being in the mix took away, it made me less present, sometimes sloppy, sometimes silly (not in a good way!!) and often cringing with dusty recollections!!

🌤️💛When you really look at it with curiosity ask dies what I have in my glass align with my heart and mind that towards goal??? Nowadays o still use the gorgeous glass but in it is or Huel which have a lovely (with benefits) natural drink or offering. I know that I actually feel better after having those and they are support my lifestyle of and their is alignment and balance 🌤️💛

We’ve been together since 1998, he never once in 28 years commented on my drinking habits. I knew my behaviour and words in particular when drinking hurt and were unfair and that knowing felt sh*t. I had to take accountability and start to heal with clarity not the chaos and clouds that alcohol brought. To truly be heard and understood to add weight and value to my words and feelings I had to be vulnerable come from a place of calm and clarity. I had never been able to regulate my emotions and defo not with alcohol on the mix. Being alcohol free makes you brave and start to trust yourself and your needs, I can express them now having paused, processed and found my words calmly. All of my relationships were being impacted by alcohol at some level. Hand on hard every single relationship I have now is stronger than ever and I know, no question, that’s because I am alcohol free - any of this resonate? 💛My 26th year of visiting and my 4th visit Alcohol Free - 🧐 I wouldn’t have ever thought life could feel like it does without alcohol in it. 🥺 I relied on it for confidence, reward, escapism, identity, connection. 😰In fact it did the exact opposite as my confidence would be fake and then my hangaxiety excruciating the next day or next time I saw people I had met. 😢 The reward then became overeating, making unhealthy choices and then a cycle of restriction to compensate, utterly exhausting and self destructive! 🫩The brief moments of escapism were fake as the problem, situation, challenge was still there and sometimes made worse due to my sloppy and uncharacteristic behaviour. 😌Choosing now to face the uncomfortable and make choices in my control and hand back a whole lot that was never mine to carry. 🥴 I thought it was a classy identity to be the champagne drinker the glass topper upper hostess. 🤨But how can a liquid truly make me classy.? 😞The fact is my behaviour didn’t feel classy after the 4th glass. 🤩 Now I remember everything and trust myself and my behaviour my opinions have value and are valued. 🫤 Thinking this liquid connected me to my family and friends on a deeper level. 😎Actually the real connection comes from me being authentically me. 😶‍🌫️ Not the possibly embarrassing, louder, forgetful, oversharing me. 🥰 Mic drop I am loved and liked for being slightly awkward, super health focused, being a reliable active listener who turns into a pumpkin at 10pm!
Any of this resonating? 🌤️ DM me CLARITY to set up a chit chat 🌤️
