With no competitive fixture scheduled for the Whites this weekend, it was "friendly" action instead as they welcomed last season's GADYFL Division 3 champions, Cambuslang Colts (Yellow) to Stepford.
While the match may have been billed as a friendly, a couple of interesting subplots thrown into the mix meant both teams were certainly out to claim the bragging rights!
The blustery conditions did little to help the quality of football on show, and with a tight, evenly contested first half drawing to a close, it was Colts who struck first. Reacting quickest to a loose ball in the box following a corner, they fired home to take a 1-0 lead into the break.
With the wind at their backs in the second half, the Whites gradually began to take the game to their opponents, although clear-cut chances remained scarce and Colts continued to look dangerous on the break.
The Whites' persistence finally paid off when some great work from Dylan saw him deliver a ball into the box for Josh T, who made no mistake, stroking home to bring the boys level!
With the clock ticking down and the match looking like it would finish with honours even, the Whites werent quite finished......
A great ball from Cammy A picked out Nebai, who had found himself free inside the box, and he made no mistake, stabbing the ball past the keeper with virtually the last kick of the game to sn**ch a late winner!
With the weather conditions making life difficult for both sides, this was never likely to be a footballing classic. However, both teams deserve enormous credit for the effort, determination and commitment shown throughout.
For the Whites, it was good test against strong opposition and showing plenty of character to come from behind and grab the win right at the death.
A big thanks to Cambuslang Colts (Yellow) for the game, and we wish them all the very best for the remainder of their season! 🇾🇪
